I'm sorry. Those are the first two words Phil Mickelson should say publicly Sunday morning after a fitful night of sleep. I withdraw. Those are the next words Mickelson should say on his way out of the U.S. Open and into a better and brighter tomorrow. Mickelson made a mockery of his sport's national championship on his 48th birthday, and he should now do the honorable thing and remove himself from the tournament. He hit his moving ball out of frustration on the 13th green at Shinnecock Hills, and then told a counterfeit tale about his intent. Mickelson said he...

President Trump faced something different while attending the U.S. Women's Open at his golf course in Bedminster, N.J. — a tiny and polite protest. In fact the three women and one man wearing purple t-shirts reading, "USGA, Dump Sexist Trump," simply stared at the president once he arrived a little after 3 p.m and then gave up less than an hour later to get some ice cream, according to the White House pool report. It didn't appear that Trump, wearing a campaign "Make America Great Again" hat and who also attended Saturday's tournament, saw the protesters, apparently part of the...

hough other companies and organizations are cutting ties with Donald Trump following his inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants, the golf world is continuing to do business with the Republican presidential candidate. NBC, Univision and Macy's have cut ties with the real estate mogul following his comments, but the PGA of America, the LPGA, the USGA and the PGA Tour will go forward with their previously scheduled plans to host tournaments on his courses.

PINEHURST, N.C. -- Many kids in Rickie Fowler's generation just don't get it, that's what the Old Schoolers like to say, anyway. The twenty-somethings don't respect history, don't appreciate who came before them, and don't see any cause as bigger than their own daily pursuits. On the surface, Fowler can come across as the too-cool-for-school face of that perception. He has fame and fortune despite only one PGA Tour victory to his name. He wears hip clothes, appears in cute, if self-congratulatory, commercials, and plays in a faux band on YouTube with a circle of fellow pampered golfers. Oh yeah,...

--snip-- A teenager named Michael Kim, a student at Cal, needed a caddie for the U.S. Open. This was not a big-dollar gig. Kim is an amateur. Even if he won the whole blasted tournament, he couldn't take a dime. Not that a 19-year-old was about to contend for the U.S. Open. Unless he did. Kim and Temple got along great, and the boy wonder, who earned college player of the year honors, actually made the cut.

Anyone out there want to follow along and comment? Just an awesome venue. THIS is what a US Open is supposed to look like - both on television and on the leader board.

ARDMORE, Pa. -- It didn't take long to figure out who was winning the U.S. Open on Friday: Merion. The historic course in suburban Philadelphia rose up and put down any thought it could be manhandled, with perhaps some help from the United States Golf Association. Despite a week's worth of rain and soft conditions that many figured would make the East Course vulnerable, scoring was in line with the typically high numbers often seen at the year's second major championship. When play was suspended due to darkness, Phil Mickelson was tied for the lead with Billy Horschel. Mickelson, the...

New US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy has used his new Major winning status to question the direction of pro tournament golf. In an article appearing on a US golf website, Ogilvy hits out at the R & A, the USGA, US Masters officials and also their counterparts who dictate course set-up on the US Tour. The Victorian golfer is angry at the tendency for event officials to increase the length of courses and to allow the rough to grow to almost unplayable lengths. "Two important aspects of golf have gone in completely the wrong direction," said Ogilvy. "Most things are...

A professional golf association in America has adopted guidelines that open the door for athletes who were once the opposite sex to compete for championships. The United States Golf Association announced a new policy March 21 under which "transgender athletes will be eligible to compete two years after having gender reassignment surgery." This policy was established along with "proof of gender guidelines" that a medical committee appointed by the Association will ultimately oversee. AgapePress confirmed the USGA policy change this week. According to the USGA, both the International Olympic Committee and the Ladies Golf Union (in England) have also adopted...
