At least five stories in one here. 1) Paul Pelosi, husband of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, has been sued by former NFL coach, Dennis Green, who left the NFL to coach for the newly formed United Football League (UFL). Green has not been paid. Players were not paid. 2) The Pelosis do not hire union workers for their many businesses, including their Napa, California vineyard, 3) Nancy put a $25 MILLION earmark in a Bill which passed the House to improve the San Francisco Embarcadero area, where her husband owns four rental properties, bringing in $3 MILLION annually, 4)...

It's not that much longer before Michael Vick re-enters society, hopefully as a completely new man. Obviously, he's going to be desperate for a paycheck, but before he gets one, some things need to happen.

After a hiatus of two decades, professional sports is returning to Casa Grande. The fledgling United Football League, which is to begin play with six franchises in August, has chosen ground adjacent to the Francisco Grande Hotel & Golf Resort as the site for a $20 million training facility for three of the league's six original teams. Eight playing fields, four field houses, locker rooms, a training and rehabilitation center, office space and other amenities are planned for the site. And while the facility is being built primarily for use by the new professional league, there will be benefits to...

Sounds like the United Football League is going to happen in 2009. Prospective UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue told agents the other day it will be an eight-team league (he said six owners, including Mark Cuban, are already in place), beginning in August 2009. The details were sketchy from there, but some agents reported that the minimum salary would be $75,000, the league would go after existing NFL personnel people and assistant coaches to be the league's GMs and head coaches, and the league would try to sign some of the 30th through 43rd players on NFL rosters for slightly more...

Following my last article on the UFL from the end of October, public news on the league was scarce. An occasional article would pop up on the league but that was about it. I heard lots of rumors and some substantive news from time to time, but nothing I’d feel good about publishing. Finally I had the opportunity to speak with Commissioner Michael Huyghue again on Friday, January 18th. Initially I pushed the commissioner on why the announcement had been delayed and when it would occur. Huyghue revealed that the initial announcement had been delayed because unlike past attempts they...
