Sounds like the United Football League is going to happen in 2009. Prospective UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue told agents the other day it will be an eight-team league (he said six owners, including Mark Cuban, are already in place), beginning in August 2009. The details were sketchy from there, but some agents reported that the minimum salary would be $75,000, the league would go after existing NFL personnel people and assistant coaches to be the league's GMs and head coaches, and the league would try to sign some of the 30th through 43rd players on NFL rosters for slightly more money than they'd make in the big league.

Sounds like the NFL may be in for a little competition.
They'll need more than Cuban, though.
Will they be able to play in NFL stadia? In many markets, it won't matter.
I bet they put a team in LA.

Don’t forget Dallas. Once the Cowboys move to their new home, we’ll have an empty Texas Stadium UFL business.

If they recruit good players, which anyone on a NFL squad or practice squad ( some good college ones that missed the draft ) are only slightly less a player that the “star”, and pay them a reasonable salary instead of the multi-million crapola and not try to make the players into this hero type, gladiator, rock star image, I’ll watch it over the NFL.
To: Thunder90
So did the WFL and the NFL Eorope.

There have been plenty of contenders. Not even Cuban’s money can make this succeed where so many have failed.

The USFL might have made it if owners like Donald Trump & Ed Debartolo hadn’t tried to get into bidding wars with the NFL to sign top-draft picks. The USFL was designed to be a minor league, but some of the owners had delusions that they were the AFL of the ‘80’s.

Is Las Vegas going after ANOTHER deadbeat football league team?
Watching 30th through 43rd level players seems to be their style.
