On March 15, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and his liberal associates held a press conference and vowed to shut down the federal government if necessary to maintain the Democrat’s filibuster tactic against President Bush’s judicial nominees. According to Reid, Democrats will stop all Senate activities except essential operations and national defense. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) responded to Reid’s press conference: “Senator Reid’s threat may inspire the Michael Moore wing of his party, but it will anger and confuse mainstream Americans.” Sean Rushton, executive director of the Committee for Justice noted that Reid’s media event was “kabuki theater for...

Newly elected Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma is facing the same ethics charges leveled by the same literal-minded staffer who nearly forced him out of the House of Representatives seven years ago. In 1997, the House Ethics Committee ruled that Dr. Coburn could return weekly to Muskogee, Oklahoma to deliver babies despite ethics regulations intended to prevent lawmakers from practicing medicine on the side. Robert L. Walker has moved from the staff of the House to the Senate Ethics Committee and is contending that stiffer Senate regulations prohibit Coburn from practicing his obstetrician's trade. A compromise is being sought...

WASHINGTON Call them the five horsemen of the Republican Revolution: incoming US Sens. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Jim DeMint of South Carolina, John Thune of South Dakota, and David Vitter of Louisiana. Their arrival in the US Senate next week gives a powerful boost to both fiscal and social conservatives on issues ranging from judicial nominations and abortion rights to tax reform. It also tips the number of former House members in the Senate to 52 percent - the first time it has passed a majority. More than just an additional five GOP votes, they...

REPUBLICAN SENATOR-ELECT Tom Coburn is proud of the number of babies he has delivered, many of them on weekends while serving in the House of Representatives. But his participation in the miracle of life can't compete with his much-more-miraculous ability to walk on water. No one has actually seen him skip lightly across the waves, but after his remarkably thorough job of burning bridges at the close of his stint in the House, walking on water is the only way Coburn could have made it back across the Potomac.Of his congressional colleagues he has said, "Most of them are egomaniacs....

If any other Okie Freepers want to help spread the word about Brad Carson's liberal record let me know. Brad Carson has been traveling the state telling voters he's a conservative Dem when nothing could be further from the truth. Combat the out of state political operatives! I'll be hanging these signs all over the Tulsa area this weekend. I plan on putting up enough signs to get attention in the local media (radio, TV, newspapers). Email me if you want to help in other areas around the state. Help from other parts of the state would be great!!!

Republicans rally for unity By James S. Tyree Transcript Staff Writer Bobby Cleveland, Cleveland County Republican Club president, couldn’t believe his luck Friday night for the Big Event. The weather was pleasant in August and 14 politicians spoke and finished ahead of schedule. “It’s a miracle,” Cleveland beamed. Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin, U.S. Rep. Tom Cole and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Coburn headlined a cavalcade of Republicans in and/or seeking office. The Big Event took place at the Community Christian School football field. Fallin isn’t up for re-election this year and Cole is a virtual lock for a second...

Dear Friends and Supporters, The dirty tricks have begun. It has come to our attention that an unidentified organization is calling Oklahoma voters posing as a polling/research firm. According to reports that our offices are receiving, the calls begin as a routine political poll, asking the respondent to state a preference in the upcoming general election. If the voter selects Tom Coburn, the caller then lists a series of issues it says you need to know about Tom Coburn. The so-called "issues" that have been brought to our attention are despicable lies and half-truths and have absolutely no place in...

Are you convinced that all candidates running for political office are the same? Do you see "politics" as just another career choice, where candidates work their way up the ladder and – once elected to the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate – use their power, influence and our tax dollars to keep their jobs for life? Are you annoyed that the party establishment handpicks the candidates to fill the important posts, then lays out the breadcrumbs for the rest of us to dutifully follow to the polls? Just when you thought there was no way that an...

Former three-term Republican Rep. Tom Coburn and Democratic Rep. Brad Carson wasted little time celebrating their Oklahoma Senate primaries, quickly turning their attention toward each other in their bid to replace retiring GOP Sen. Don Nickles. In comments Tuesday night after both scoring impressive victories, Coburn ridiculed Carson's claim of being a conservative Democrat, and Carson questioned Coburn's commitment to Oklahoma. They agreed on only one thing: a tough general election battle looms between two candidates with starkly different visions for the state. Coburn's win came in a bitter Republican primary that included charges of double-crosses and shady land deals....

The ads especially hurt Humphreys in his Oklahoma City base. At the same time, [Tom] Coburn saw his support grow after he hit television airwaves for the first time. The Club for Growth, which is supporting Coburn, also has aired positive ads on his behalf and briefly went after...
