I watched the debate the other night on CSPAN..

Carson seemed extremely effeminate, although he wore a wedding ring.

Wow that is such a relief. Coburn was down for quite a while.
Amazing to see this kind of movement.

This is a relief. Tom Coburn has run an inept campaign, but will probably win anyway. This is not the year that Oklahoma will elect a Democrat to the Senate. On election night, conservatives will be breathing a sigh of relief when this race is called.

Oh, it is great. I like the baby ad from the CFG. It was just what we needed to repair the considerable damage done from the sterilization story.

Got this in my email. What do you think the bold means???

Dear Friends,

The energy level is very high as we enter the final full week of our
campaign and there's little wonder as to why!

On Tuesday, former President George Bush addressed a
standing-room-only crowd at the Oklahoma City Civic Center on behalf of our
campaign, declaring that, "My son and I both want someone who can represent
our values in the Senate, and that man is Tom Coburn!" It was certainly
very heartening to receive that endorsement, and the audience was roaring
with enthusiasm. President Bush also recalled that, when he was president,
the Senate was in the hands of the Democrats and his legislative program was
dead on arrival. He does not want that to happen to the current President
Bush, and neither do we.

The entire Oklahoma congressional delegation (except for Mr. Carson,
of course) was on hand at the event and had great things to say.

Then, on Thursday night, my good friend Dr. James Dobson addressed a
rally in Tulsa in support of the Oklahoma marriage initiative and Coburn for
Senate. Dr. Richard Roberts, president of Oral Roberts University; State
Senator Jim Williamson, sponsor of the marriage initiative; and Senator Jim
Inhofe joined us, and each one gave a stirring address. But the highlight
was certainly Dr. Dobson's talk. He said some embarrassingly complimentary
things about me, told the truth about Brad Carson's abysmally liberal record,
and made the contrast between Carson and myself on moral issues crystal clear.

Today, however, put last nights rally in the shadows. Dr. Dobson,
Senator Williamson and I started the morning in Durant with a
pro-marriage/pro-Coburn rally in the city's largest church, Victory Life,
but the crowd was twice as big as the sanctuary could hold! In addition,
the rally was broadcast live on both TV and radio. Then we headed off to
Lawton, but we were diverted by weather so the Lawton rally had to be conducted
via telephone and broadcast. It was hard not being able to see the rally, but I hear it was great. Finally, we finished the day at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City. This was a great visit. We received excellent media coverage, and I think it settles the question, for anyone who had any doubts, about which is
the real pro-family candidate.

Another reason why excitement is building in the Coburn campaign is
that after weeks of complete deadlock, we are beginning to see a pro-Coburn
trend in the polls. Every public poll has us ahead by anywhere from 1 to 6
points. That is not a big lead, and it doesn't mean a thing in reality. But
it is encouraging to be on the side that is ahead and gaining instead of the
side that is behind and falling. That is, in large part, thanks to your
good work.

It is also due to the desperation of the Carson campaign, a
desperation that has led them into a strategy of deliberate character
assassination. Decent Oklahomans are revolted by the false and malicious
charges Carson has launched against me, and his support is melting away.

I can tell you that it hurts very much to have my professional
integrity and my personal honor attacked in endless television commercials.
But I am very grateful to the many people who have stepped forward to
defend me. This week we had news conferences in both Oklahoma City and
Tulsa at which doctors and experts in Medicaid billing explained to the
media the correct procedures (which I followed) for handling
unusual situations under Medicaid. On Wednesday morning, before President
Bush's visit, Senator Inhofe and Congressmen Cole, Istook, Lucas and Sullivan
held a joint news conference to express their agreement with Senator Nickles
that the Carson commercials are character assassination that have no place
in politics. They joined Senator Nickles in demanding that Mr. Carson take
those ads down and apologize for them. Carson's response, I am sorry to say,
was to run a second week of personal attacks on me, paid for by his own
campaign, along with another commercial, paid for by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, on the same theme!

By the way, when I object to personal attacks in political
advertising, it is not only when I am the target. Just this afternoon I
learned of a commercial that an independent group plans to run making a
personal attack on Brad Carson, and within an hour our campaign had a
statement out condemning the personal attack and demanding that it be taken
off the air. We have never attacked Brad Carson's character, nor will we,
and we will not stand by while someone else does so in a misguided attempt
to be helpful. We have attacked Brad's public record, which is far too liberal
for Oklahoma, but the personal attacks in this campaign have come only from
one side.

Let me close by mentioning a hero. Walter Haskins is the lawyer who
represented me thirteen years ago when I was the defendant in a frivolous
lawsuit based on untruthful claims. He does not agree with me politically; in fact, he and his wife contributed the maximum amount allowed by law to Brad Carson's campaign. When he saw me attacked in the media in early September about that very lawsuit, he told Brad Carson the facts that I had done nothing wrong and that the case had been quite properly thrown out of court. But when Mr. Carson went ahead and put a million dollars of his campaign funds behind television advertisements intended to destroy my character with those same false charges, Mr. Haskins stepped forward publicly to tell reporters that the claims in those commercials are false and that Brad Carson knew it. Now Mr. Haskins has made a commercial for us that you will probably be seeing over the next few days.

Walt Haskins has come to my defense on his own initiative, at his own
expense, and against his own political preferences, because truth matters to
him. I am overwhelmed by the courage and integrity of this good man, and I
will remember it the rest of my life.

Coming up next week: a visit by Senator Elizabeth Dole, plus a surprise that should generate some interest in the media.

These last ten days are critical, so please, if it's at all possible, make
some time in your week to volunteer in your neighborhood. If you are not
personally in contact with the Coburn field representative for your area,
just call one of our four offices and they can help you out. The office phone
numbers are:

Muskogee 918-684-4308

Tulsa 918-294-8352

Oklahoma City 405-721-4281

Lawton 580-353-2858

Thank you again for your prayers and your help!

God bless you,

Dr. Tom Coburn

I just responded to a telephone poll 'bout 10 minutes ago. Hope my input helped the good doctor!

One of the questions was, naturally, "who do you support" between Coburn/Carson. When I responded with Coburn, I thought the phone would go dead. Instead, she asked why not Carson? I told her that as far as I am concerned, Carson is trying to run as a conservative, but his record in the US House is liberal.

To my surprise, she next asked if I owned any guns (yep, but not enough), if I had military experience (yep, 22 years USAF), who I favor for president (GWB, naturally).

This is a first for me. I'm usually cut off after the first q/a.
