Chris Christie leads Jon Corzine 47-41 in PPP's final poll of the New JerseyGovernor's race, with Chris Daggett at 11%. Corzine had pulled to within a point of Christie on our poll three weeks ago after trailing by as many as 14 points over the summer, but his momentum has stalled since then and Christie's built his lead back up to 4 points last week and now 6. Christie's advantage is due largely to his support from independents and because he has Republicans more unified around him than the Democrats are around Corzine. Christie leads Corzine 52-29 with indies, as...

The head of the county bureau of elections hasn’t encountered any suspected voter registration fraud, but allegations in other parts of Pennsylvania have sparked a lawsuit and a verbal exchange between a state official and the Republican Party. The Pennsylvania Republican Party filed a lawsuit to assure the vote count is accurate – a move that Gov. Ed Rendell’s press secretary described as a “Jim Crow attitude.” State GOP Chairman Robert Gleason said the action was taken to question the validity of some new registrations – most of which were gathered by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now....

You thought we’ve forgotten, ey? Not at all. During the Mississippi Democratic Primaries, Barack Obama won 265,502 votes in Mississippi, an amount equal to 61.2% of the total votes cast. Hillary came in a very distant second with 36.7% of the vote, the other candidates split the difference... Well, when something seems too good to be true, it usually is, and reports coming out of the state provide us with the following ultra-amazing information: Mississippi’s voter situation is hard to believe. Places like Madison County have over 123% more registered voters than people over the age of 18... We have...

Almost 1.5 million Ohioans request absentee ballotsPosted by Reginald Fields/Plain Dealer Columbus Bureau October 27, 2008 14:56PM COLUMBUS -- Amid predictions that next week's election could draw among the highest voter turnouts in Ohio history, an unprecedented number of Ohioans have elected to vote absentee. Nearly 1.5 million voters through Oct. 24 requested an absentee ballot either in person or by mail, according to the Ohio Secretary of State's Office. Voters can still request an absentee ballot from their county board of elections through Saturday and must postmark their ballots by Monday, Nov. 3 or the ballots can be dropped...

Zogby: Obama Leads 75% to 15% With Dead Voters by Hugh Ken Knott B. Sirius As if gaining with female and Catholic voters wasn't enough, Democratic President-to-be Barack Obama now leads John McCain with 75% of registered dead voters. McCain draws the support of just 15% of corpses, with the remaining 10% are undecided. When numbers are adjusted to from registered to likely dead voters, Obama loses just 2% of the vote. "This is proof that Obama appeals to people of all ages," said an anonymous Obama spokesperson. When asked why he supports Obama, dead actor Humphrey Bogart said, "Mr....

Six Alabama counties have more enrolled voters than people of voting age MONTGOMERY - Six Alabama counties have more people on their voting rolls than they do people of voting age, according to voter registration numbers and U.S. Census Bureau estimates. The curious statistic could be the result of a surge in new registrations added to voter rolls that have not been purged of people who moved, said local election officials. But the state's top elections chief said Thursday she's concerned that bloated rolls could leave opportunity for Election Day fraud. "I can't say it's impossible that 100 percent of...

Link to PalestraThis morning, I received information that an Obama campaign worker Jacob I. Smith had registered to vote at a temporary address in Ohio. We looked up Smith's public voter record and contacted the residents of the house at which "Jake" Smith was registered to vote. Smith was being hosted by a man named Don and his wife during the election period. Don agreed to answer a few questions on camera, so we headed down to Howard, OH. On the way down, Don called me back and said that he wanted us to get Smith's side of the story...

During a stop in OH, just a dozen miles from the WV border, Joe Biden pledged this week that Barack Obama will carry the Mountain State and "shock the living Devil out of you all." Next week, he can make that promise in person. The DE senator is tentatively planning to campaign in WV Friday, marking the first general election appearance in the state for the Democratic ticket.

Groups: ACORN attacks meant to suppress vote By Chris Good Posted: 10/15/08 03:51 PM [ET] Left-leaning groups Wednesday came to the defense of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), accusing Republicans of seeking to suppress voter turnout by attacking the group. “This latest attack on ACORN follows a sorry pattern, played out in election after election,” said Julian Bond, chairman of the NAACP, outlining what he called a history of voter suppression tactics by the Republican Party. Bond spoke at a press conference at the National Press Club. He was joined by leaders of ACORN and People...

Members of the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now downplayed their group’s participation in voter registration fraud and argued fraudulent voter applications rarely corrupt the electoral process Tuesday. One African-American ACORN official even suggested fraudulent registrations were a small price to pay for voting privileges that were paid for “in blood.” “Thorough studies of voter fraud in the United States have been done and the universal conclusion of the studies that have been done by us and other people is that the actual incidence of the voters voting under a false name and attempting to register multiple times and...

Barack Obama took time out from debate preparations today to weigh in on the increasingly loud controversy over an activist group's voter registration drive. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, known as ACORN, claims to have registered 1.3 million young people, minorities, and working-class voters. But some of those registration cards have listed dead or nonexistent people and are being investigated in at least eight states. Republican John McCain, and today his running mate Sarah Palin, have called on Obama to take control of ACORN's activities. “Obama has a responsibility to rein in ACORN and prove that he...

Move over, Bill Ayers. This week, Republican activists have a new Public Enemy #1. It’s ACORN, the once-obscure community-organizing group that boasts of having registered 1.3 million new voters. Republican officials and advisers to Sen. John McCain have accused ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) of rampant voter-registration fraud. Indeed, officials in states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Indiana and Connecticut now are looking into accusations that ACORN workers turned in thousands of fraudulent or duplicate voter-registration applications. (The Dallas Cowboys magically filled out voter registration forms in Nevada, for example.) So what exactly is...

An elder statesman of the Republican party cast doubt about the legitimacy of the presidential election yesterday - three weeks before Americans go to the polls - by declaring the process was already "tainted" by voter fraud. The assertion from John Danforth, a former Missouri senator and ambassador to the UN, dramatically escalates charges by the John McCain camp that Barack Obama and the community organisation Acorn are trying to steal the election by bringing new voters into the electoral system. Danforth said canvassers for Acorn, which has registered 1.3 million new voters - mostly African-Americans, Latinos and young people...

Should Dick Tracy's, Mary Poppins', and Jive Turkey's votes count? The American social contract, like that of any democracy or republic, includes a universal agreement to abide by the will of a majority in a democratic election. Even if we do not like the winner, we recognize his or her right to hold office according to the will of the majority. We similarly recognize the fastest runner in a race as the winner, and the student who earns the highest grade point average as the valedictorian. No one, however, recognizes the outcome of a game in which one of the competitors...

A retired Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice says that she is "not confident we can get a fair election" in the state come November. Justice Sandra Newman, accompanied by Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico and Pennsylvania Republican State Chairman Robert Gleason, expressed her concerns at a Harrisburg press conference this morning. A thick document replete with photo copies of phony registrations and aerial shots of vacant lots used as "addresses" for "voters" was handed out to journalists. Gleason was even more explicit. "Between March 23rd and October 1st, various groups, including ACORN, submitted over 252,595 registrations to the Philadelphia County...

It might be a pure coincidence, but Barack Obama gave God the credit for the weather not once, but twice today. In Chillocothe, Ohio he opened his morning speech with the words, "What a wonderful crowd on this beautiful day that the Lord has made." And then later in Columbus he said, "Look at this day that the Lord has made!" Indeed, it was a very nice day whoever made it. But it is where Obama said it that is interesting. Ohio has voted Republican in the previous 2 elections, and George W. Bush had some success galvanizing the evangelical...
