Members of the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now downplayed their groups participation in voter registration fraud and argued fraudulent voter applications rarely corrupt the electoral process Tuesday.
One African-American ACORN official even suggested fraudulent registrations were a small price to pay for voting privileges that were paid for in blood.
Thorough studies of voter fraud in the United States have been done and the universal conclusion of the studies that have been done by us and other people is that the actual incidence of the voters voting under a false name and attempting to register multiple times and to defraud the system is minimal purging on nonexistent, said former Connecticut Secretary of State Miles Rapaport on ACORNs behalf at a press conference in Washington.
Standing alongside ACORN officials Rapaport said the actual instances of them [voter fraud] is so small" and it would be wrong "to use it as an excuse to try to discourage people from registering, to set up barriers with a draconian a voter identification provisions.
The GOP has aggressively criticized ACORN for their fraudulent activities. Both Republican presidential candidate John McCain and vice president Sarah Palin have called on Congress to investigate ACORNs voter registration activities.
Weve been incarcerated by a very unfortunate season of mudslinging, said Maryland ACORN president Rev. Gloria Swierenga. There can be errors in the process, we readily admit that, but we are fiercely patriotic and its in no ones best interest. She said others have died so I can vote, so this is no small matter and when we explain to people how you can help build an America that is truly one nation, indivisible with liberty and justice for all, I think most people take that seriously. I think that the Palin campaign speaks for itself.
Down the hall from ACORNs press conference at the National Press Club former Senators John Danforth and Warren Rudman who chair McCains Honest and Open Elections Committee invited Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to help them prevent voter fraud at the behest of ACORN.
ACORN endorsed Obama for president earlier this year and Obama was the first ever national candidate to contract ACORN workers for get-out-the-vote activities.
Obama has not responded to McCains calls to work together against voter fraud.
I ask this out of ignorance:
Can the Attorney General get involved?
Certainly Congress is not going to do anything.
What are we going to do? Sit around and watch Obama steal the elections?
I noticed ACORN is now using white male spokesmen, possibly to give this minority scum outfit a little diversity.
You got that right.
Mac should call zero on this tonight, ask him straight up if he is for a free and fair election and watch him squirm on national tv.
Imagine that!
The only way the left can win is through fraud and dishonesty
They can downplay it all they want. I work with a democrat who’s been on the fence leaning Obama. Yesterday she said she’s going with McCain because of ACORN and not only the voter fraud — but their role in the mortgage mess as well. Like most democrat women, she hates Palin but said she would hold her nose and vote for McCain. This ACORN voter scandal is hurting Obama and I predict it will be reflected in the polls by this weekend.
That is the talking point — that there are bad voter registrations, but not bad ballots. We need to counter this argument and show how these will be changed to votes.
Voting TWICE is a FELONY!!! I think we are going to see a LOT of students going to PRISON!!! I can dream, can’t I?
You see “Voter Registration Fraud” has nothing whatsoever to do with “Vote Fraud”.
I saw a spokesman for Obama or ACORN say the same thing.
Registration fraud is just cheeky and fun hijinks!
Its voter “Supression”...Now that is the evil thing!
