Sea ice in the Antarctic is much less sensitive to the effects of climate change that that of the Arctic A hundred years of cars, planes, wars, and five billion more polluting people, and there’s nothing to show for it. Old log books kept by Scott and Shackleton show that Antarctic sea ice hasn’t changed much since 1912 reports Joanne Nova. Experts have been concerned that ice at the South Pole had declined significantly since the 1950s, which they feared was driven by man-made climate change. But new analysis suggests that conditions are now virtually identical to when the Terra...

The SS Terra Nova, the ship that carried Captain Robert Scott on his doomed expedition to the Antarctic a century ago, has been discovered off Greenland. It was discovered by a team from a US research company using a hi-tech underwater vehicle after they spotted an unusual object while testing their sonar equipment. Scott and his party set off from Cardiff aboard the Terra Nova in 1910 with the aim of becoming the first expedition to reach the South Pole. A crew from the Schmidt Ocean Institute discovered the Terra Nova whilst testing echo-sounding equipment aboard its flagship vessel -...

One of the television season’s most ambitious new series, the science-fiction drama “Terra Nova,” got word this week that it would have no future on Fox, but the studio that produces it has begun intensive efforts to find another network willing to run the show.

In the early moments of its two-hour season (and probably series) finale, Terra Nova took off its training wheels and put on its big-boy pants, giving us a brief glimpse of what we'd all hoped the show would be in the first place. But like a tyke who's not quite ready for grown-up activities, it didn't take long for the show to faceplant and poop itself. Yes, Terra Nova took a major step toward becoming a legitimate television show with the season-ending double-feature of "Occupation" and "Resistance," but aside from a few fleeting scenes that were intriguing only if you...
  • Did Terra Nova Fight Off Extinction?

Terra Nova aired its season finale last night. The question is whether the Steven Spielberg sci-fi/adventure series aired its series finale, as well. Last night's numbers were good and not-great. The good: 7.2 million viewers, per estimates. The not-great: a 2.2 rating among 18-49-year-olds. Both performances were up from last week's, but, for the most part, weren't big enough to top CBS' comedy reruns. They were also the latest comedown from the series' September premiere (9.2 million viewers; 3.1 demo rating). Still, Terra Nova is not exactly looking extinct. In Nielsen's latest weekly rankings, it scored enough overall viewers to...

'Terra Nova' star Stephen Lang plays Commander Taylor, whose son may destroy everything the settlers hold dear in tonight's season finale. It has been a pivotal first season of the sci-fi drama backdropped in a world where dinosaurs still roam. TERRA NOVA ambitiously set out to show us the story of a family that was willing to travel back in time in order to stay together and have a chance at a better future for humanity. But paradise is only beautiful on the surface. There have been bumps and bruises along the way as each of the Shannon family members...

Are dinosaurs about to go extinct for a second time? Fox's "Terra Nova," an expensive drama about a family that travels from the year 2149 to prehistoric times to try to save Earth, is fighting to survive past its freshman season. Because the show is costly and takes a long time to produce, Fox ordered only 13 episodes, the last of which will air on Dec. 19. Now 20th Century Fox Television, the production studio that makes "Terra Nova" for the Fox network, is starting to lobby for a year two. On the surface, the ratings for "Terra Nova" are...

After endless hype and a delayed premiere, Terra Nova's $20 million dollar pilot finally roared into the primetime race last night. Steven Spielberg's gorgeous, CGI series had a decent start, but couldn't beat out Two and a Half Men or Dancing with the Stars. While CBS ruled Monday night and ABC's Dancing with the Stars saw a ratings drop but stayed in second, Fox is calling Terra Nova's third place premiere a win. The action adventure series finally stomped onto screens Monday and managed to lure in around 9 million viewers with the promise of dinosaurs, time travel and family...

Terra Nova is about to get wilder. After experimenting with a couple stand-alone episodes, Fox’s dino-drama is taking a more serialized path for the rest of the season — solving key mysteries, introducing new dinos, and even killing off a character. (Don’t worry, we won’t say who.)

Stephen Spielberg has remade "Jurrasic Park" for TV. It starts in September. It is described as a tree-hugger version of a time-travel story (Earth's atmosphere becomes so polluted that people have to flee back in time 85 million years.) An updated Robinson family (per "Lost in Space") is described as the main characters. The trailers look like outtakes from "Jurrasic Park." My question: does this thing have a chance at "something over $4M" per episode?

Joe Weisenthal May. 9, 2010, 9:45 AM Image: Terra Nova Financial One persistent rumor is that the initial high-volume trades that caused the market to go haywire on Thursday, prompting the Crash of 2:45, originated somewhere in Chicago. • Arizona State Report Card Unreliable

Phoenix—The just-released Arizona State Report Card says that “Arizona students perform above the national average” on national tests. But a new study from the Goldwater Institute exposes several flaws in the Arizona student testing system that cast doubt on the reliability of that claim. The Report Card states that a national test called the TerraNova shows Arizona students perform above the national average. But, the Goldwater Institute study, A Test of Credibility: NAEP versus TerraNova Test Score Results in Arizona, reveals that Arizona students take a modified version of TerraNova, which means their test scores cannot be accurately compared to...
