Terra Nova: A Thing of the Past (humorous review notes logic gaps)
TV.com ^ | December 20, 2011 | Tim Surette

In the early moments of its two-hour season (and probably series) finale, Terra Nova took off its training wheels and put on its big-boy pants, giving us a brief glimpse of what we'd all hoped the show would be in the first place. But like a tyke who's not quite ready for grown-up activities, it didn't take long for the show to faceplant and poop itself. Yes, Terra Nova took a major step toward becoming a legitimate television show with the season-ending double-feature of "Occupation" and "Resistance," but aside from a few fleeting scenes that were intriguing only if you consider them in the context of the rest of the series, good lord was the finale bad!

Shipping over sized reptile to the future was a good sub plot.

Primeval has already done that. I love that series.

I have just one thing to say about Terra Nova. More of a quote from Dr Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park. "Now you do plan to have dinosaurs in your dinosaur TV show? Hello? (breaths heavy into camera)" No Chaos theory here and no dinosaurs. jeff goldblum jurassic park Pictures, Images and Photos

I always wonder where they find writers who are THAT bad to write sci-fi shows. It seems you could round up better writers at any community college.

I was saying the same thing to hubby just a couple of weeks ago. I was certain that they should really be encountering more dinosaurs. In fact, I believe the Raptors would probably be staking out the place for the foolish humans who decide to go for a stroll in the jungle.

We have watched this show; but, we decided that if it is not renewed (a real possibility from what I read) we will not be disappointed.

Primeval always forces us to run the English language subtext so we can read what those people think they are saying.

The fact it's a foreign language TV show is a bit of a drawback and those Europeans had been doing so well ~ then this. Just one thing after another.

If Jericho had the budget that Terra Nova had, it would still be on.

It was a good show, better than whatever else is on TV. Apologies to House and a few others. Just like the Terminator series, it promised a lot, delivered some, and makes me miss good sci-fi on the free networks.

I can handle maybe 99% of what they are saying. Watching Brit TV since a young kid helps I guess.

Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes required some subtext a few times with Gene, Chris and Ray.

Sid and Marty Krofft had more dinosaur action on their saturday morning cartoons than this show does.

If that show had been the property of any other network but Fox, you would never have read such a review.

It’s also the same reason House will never see an Emmy.

Well, that was probably one of the worst-written reviews I’ve seen. Oh, I’ve seen some that criticize Terra Nova pretty harshly, but they usually managed to be written by someone who can, you know, actually write without oozing smugness off the page to cover up the fact that he can’t write — unless, of course, the smugness isn’t actually an act, and he thinks that that is actual writing.

They show up occasionally when the budget allows for it.

And I leave the subtitles on for “House”. Not only does it help to understand what’s going on sometimes, but as an added bonus, it identifies the music by title and artist, which normally I wouldn’t care about, but I discovered that the musical selection is often chosen based on theme (ie, the title of the song fits in whatever just happened).

Despite it’s flaws, I like it quite a bit. I also appreciate the fact that it’s quite family-friendly, when very little is on television these days, even if that means it’s sometimes corny. Yeah, CHiPs, Little House on the Prairie, and The Dukes of Hazzard were plenty corny and had flaws, too, but families could watch them together.
