Three retired US generals warned Friday that America's divided military could fuel a new civil war if there's another coup attempt after the 2024 election because 'more than 1 in 10 of those charged in January 6 attacks had a service record'. Former Army Major Gen Paul Eaton, former Brigadier Gen Steven Anderson and former Army Major Gen Antonio Taguba made the worrisome claim in a column for The Washington Post.

WASHINGTON — The Army general who led the investigation into prisoner abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison accused the Bush administration Wednesday of committing "war crimes" and called for those responsible to be held to account. The remarks by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, who's now retired, came in a new report that found that U.S. personnel tortured and abused detainees in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, using beatings, electrical shocks, sexual humiliation and other cruel practices. "After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to...

The Senate Armed Services Committee will hear tomorrow from the general who wrote the report detailing the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. General Antonio Taguba's 50-page report found numerous "sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses" at the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad. The committee will also hear tomorrow from several Pentagon officials, including the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence, Stephen Cambone. The announcement comes as the Pentagon grapples with whether still-unreleased photos that allegedly show abuse should be released to the public. Copyright 2004 Associated Press. All rights reserved.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The head of U.S. detention centers in Iraq said Saturday the military has no plans to close the Abu Ghraib prison and blamed the abuse of detainees there on poor leadership and disregard for the rules. Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller said the United States does intend to cut the number of prisoners to help improve conditions but added that ``we will continue to conduct interrogation missions at the Abu Ghraib facility.''Miller was named head of prisons in April after Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, the commander of Abu Ghraib, was suspended amid allegations of abuse by U.S....

Largely forgotten in the hysterical media coverage of the Iraqi prison abuse scandal is this tidbit: the vast majority of the alleged abuses were committed against the most hardened terrorist suspects and known troublemakers, many of whom took part in prison uprisings that put the lives of U.S. military guards at risk. Section 34 of the now notorious Taguba Report begins: "The following riots, escapes, and shootings have been documented and reported to this Investigation Team." Here's a few selected highlights: * June 9, 2003 - Riot and shootings of five detainees at Camp Cropper. (115th MP Battalion) Several...

Ever since it was released to the media late last week, the Pentagon's "Taguba Report" on the abuse of Iraqi detainees by U.S. MPs has fueled a firestorm of controversy, adding new details about heinous-sounding crimes that hadn't been included in initial media reports on the scandal. While prison abuse photographs broadcast by CBS News last week document little more than the humiliation of Iraqi inmates, it was Maj. Gen. Antonio M. Taguba's catalogue of allegations that offered the most dramatic claims of physical abuse; including brutal beatings, a dog attack and sodomizing of a detainee "with a chemical...
