Bangor Maine had a large antiwar rally today on the waterfront. By saying large we are talking about around 250 people, it is a small city. The Peace and Justice Center of Bangor had announced they were expecting hundreds if not thousands to attend. It will be interesting to see what numbers they report. AMD and I were both bummed the entire morning just thinking about a protest going on with no plans to counter protest. We couldn't stand the thought of at least not going down to check things out. Maybe just maybe we would run into group of...

Faithful and True - Is That You? by Wayne Boettcher Posted: 09/29/2006 It was nearly 8:00 am Wednesday, September 27, 2006 as I arrived at 2302 E. Speedway in Tucson, Arizona where the Military Recruiting Center is located. "Anti-war" activists (nicknamed "moonbats") have been showing up for at least five years at this time and place to display flag-draped coffins, death count signs, and accusations of torture to "support the troops to bring them home." The fact that military troops do not make foreign policy is not a deterrent to the activists, and some have even admitted that their...

Mercifully, a smidgen of common sense returned to Parliament Hill when the speaker revoked an order that uniformed staff cannot wear red ribbons to honour our soldiers in Afghanistan. So, at the massive public turnout on Friday in Ottawa to show appreciation for our military, with thousands wearing symbolic "red," Commons security guards, bus drivers, cafeteria workers -- whoever wears a uniform -- could, if they wished, wear token red in support of our troops. Sounds reasonable? Of course. But until the speaker intervened, uniformed staff were ordered not to wear red because that, supposedly, would violate House of Commons...

Like a Greyhound bus travelling all the way to Kabul, people are jumping on board a big rally for the troops. I can't wait for Friday when, if yesterday was any indication, we are in for one heck of a turnout at Yonge-Dundas Square at noon. One week after they did it on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, we'll have our own Red Friday in the Big Smoke. It will be an important message to the soldiers that this city is with them. All you have to do is wear red to show your support for the men and women over...

The Parliament Hill rally grew from an idea by two military wives. OTTAWA -- The subdued colours of official Ottawa were replaced yesterday with blazing displays of red as thousands of people jammed Parliament Hill in an unprecedented outpouring of pride and tears for Canadian troops fighting in Afghanistan. "First off, all I'd like to say, 'Wow,' " said Lisa Miller, wife of a Canadian soldier, surveying the crowd of up to 10,000 from a platform at the base of the Hill. "We never dreamed it would be this good," she said, wiping away tears. "It's heart-warming you came together...

OTTAWA - A red wave of people -- supporters of Canadian troops -- swarmed across Parliament Hill at a Friday rally, where Prime Minister Stephen Harper pledged more support for the military. "Let me tell you that this government is committed to rebuilding the Armed Forces of Canada," Harper said. "And we are overwhelmed with the support that we are getting to to do that." Harper was clear to point out that Canadians who wear red in support of the troops should also support the military abroad, such as the mission in Afghanistan. "You cannot say you are for our...

Thanks For Your Service! It was a wonderful Saturday morning in Tucson on September 9th, 2006 as I headed for the southwest side, with cool breezes accentuating the rainy perfume of a droughtless fall. Here Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is located with a fine complement of fighting men and women striving to support and defend the Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Realizing this, domestic "anti-war" groups often target our troops with death count placards, flag draped coffins, UN flags and signs falsely accusing them of torture. Yes, many patriotic Americans stand against the "moonbats" as they...

An al-Qaida-linked extremist group warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that he and the West were "doomed," as protesters raged across the Muslim world to demand more of an apology from the pontiff for his remarks about Islam and violence. The Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups that includes al-Qaida in Iraq, issued a statement on a Web forum vowing to continue its holy war against the West. The authenticity of the statement could not be independently verified. The group said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross"...

News Talk Radio 580 CFRA is proud to support the grassroots effort brought to Petawawa by the wives of two men serving in the Canadian Forces. The concept of wearing something red - whether a red shirt, jacket, cap, bandana or whatever - every Friday is meant to let the soldiers and their spouses and children know they are not alone. We appreciate the sacrifices they are making on our behalf. We thank them for their service to our country and their fight for peace and justice wherever in the world they are sent. With that in mind, CFRA...

Just in. I am looking at a picture of the WTC with smoke pouring out of the western tower. Looks like a huge amount of damage. Debris raining down on people in the street.

The media reported extensively in the 90's about the world's alarm at the growing relationship between Saddam and Osama. Clinton's federal indictment mentions their relationship. A federal judge finds Iraq partially responsible for 9/11 and finds for 9/11 families.

HADITHA DAM, Iraq — One by one, the marines took the stage for one of the most coveted photo opportunities of the war. Tanea sat on a knee of an eager marine while Laurie rested on the other. Hands on their miniskirted hips, Amber and Renee posed at each side. Dani stood behind and held the marine’s rifle as the camera snapped the photo. Some of the young marines who lined up for the memento were so mesmerized by the experience that they had to be reminded not to leave their weapons behind. The Haditha Dam is in a hostile...

Singer Steve Nicks is doing her part to support U.S. troops by donating hundreds of iPods to soldiers wounded in Iraq. The former Fleetwood Mac star regularly visits soldiers at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. She explains, "I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." Nicks has provided iPods loaded with her music, along with fellow artists Aerosmith and Elvis Presley. She has also sent baby clothes to war widows,...

UN Yahoos Moonbat Mysteries Part IV by Wayne Boettcher Posted: 08/11/2006 Rain had been falling for some days now, saturating the ground in and around Tucson, Arizona with much needed water and turning the desert from tan to a lush green. But on Wednesday morning of August 9, 2006 the blue sky was relatively clear as I slogged towards the Military Recruiting Center at 2302 E. Speedway. Traffic was light for a change and I arrived in time to help set up American flags in a row along the front of the building in preparation for a strange group...

Ar-Rutbah, Iraq Just after midnight, the night patrol embarks from its small but heavily bunkered and concertina-wired outpost on the edge of this small town in southwestern Al Anbar Province. They are 10 young American Marines, venturing into the darkness on the other side of the world. The Marines are part of 1st Platoon of Alpha Company of the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, home-based in Twenty-nine Palms. They're accompanied by an Iraqi interpreter, and a journalist is tagging along. For the journalist it will be a brief but exhausting and somewhat fearful foray into the night. Although this is...
