Former President Donald Trump surged to a dead heat with President Joe Biden among suburban women, an ABC News/Ipsos poll found in May, reversing another key demographic that previously favored Biden. Trump and Biden are tied (45 percent – 45 percent) among suburban women, who are typically seen as not persuadable, the poll found. Among suburban men, Trump leads Biden by eight points (49 percent – 41 percent). The poll sampled 2,260 adults from April 25-30 with a 2-point margin of error.

With one of the oldest model nameplates still rolling around, the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban SUV doesn't do much to rock that boat. Only mildly refreshed, it remains gigantic and boxy—the longer-wheelbase version of the Tahoe. Upgrades include an improved diesel option and a more modernized interior. All of the Suburban's six trims benefit from an updated front fascia with slimmer DRLs. Premier and High Country Suburbans get new walk-up and walk-away light animations as standard. Plus, Chevy is introducing two new exterior colors: Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Cypress Gray. Finally, new and optional 24-inch wheels can be fitted to RST...

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says the Senate is going to make another attempt to pass gun control legislation in response to a new round of mass shootings. At least 10 people were killed in separate shootings in Baltimore, Fort Worth and Philadelphia over the weekend and July 4, while shootings in Lansing, Mich., and Wichita, Kan., left dozens more injured. The Gun Violence Archive has counted 20 mass shootings across the nation since July 1, leaving 19 people dead and more than 100 injured.

Footage of the burned out rental vehicles in a car park at Nantucket Memorial Airport was obtained by the Nantucket Current. The local news site reported that the cause of the fire was under investigation. No one was injured in the blaze. • White suburban women shift support from Democrats to GOP as midterm elections near: Poll

White suburban women have shifted their support in large numbers from Democrats to Republicans in the final stretch of the midterm cycle, particularly as the crucial voting bloc has become increasingly concerned with the economy and inflation. White women living in suburban areas, a key voting group that helped Democrats seize control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections, favor Republican candidates for Congress over Democrats by 15 percentage points, according to the most recent poll from the Wall Street Journal. The latest numbers reflect rising concerns about the economy and a fading importance on abortion, giving Republicans an...

Two gunmen opened fire on each other at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday in a corridor at Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook. Then-Attorney General William Barr reportedly told then-President Trump that suburban voters “think you are a f---ing asshole” and urged the president to change his image in order to win reelection, Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward said in an interview on Wednesday, detailing an episode from his new book, “Peril.” “He wanted Trump to win in 2020, last year, but he gave him some very candid advice. And Barr said in an extraordinary meeting with Trump last year — President Trump — Barr said, ‘I travel around the country as much as any Cabinet officer, and you have support there. I...

Meghan McCain told her co-hosts Thursday on ABC’s “The View” that the Republican Party is losing suburban voters over Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and “Trumpism.” Discussing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) saying Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) apologized in private, McCain said, “If you want to apologize for all the garbage and bile that you have said and then put our party through at the same time, do it publicly. Kevin McCarthy, you let Liz Cheney vacillate until the 11th hour, and then at the 11th hour said, ‘Oh, okay. We should rally behind her.’ He had plenty...

Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) Monday on MSNBC’s “Live” said he is launching a political action committee (PAC) to challenge leadership in the Republican Party still aligned with the former president Donald Trump because the GOP has to stop “trying to appeal more to the Proud Boys than to suburban moms.” Kinzinger said, “We have peddled for too long in just darkness and division, and it has just created an untenable situation like we have all seen.”

All these white anti-gun suburban parents from NoVA, NYC, S. Florida suburbs etc. were all there at the March for our Lives event. Do you trust them? They have a lot of power in the schools these days. That's a troubling sign. Where's the balance.

He's not going back to school. There aren’t enough grief counselors, well wishers or positive prayers to make Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg return to the school where his classmates were massacred unless Florida lawmakers pass gun control legislation. “I’m not going back to school on Wednesday until one bill is passed,” Hogg said at gun control rally Sunday in New Jersey.

Jennifer Mosbacher cried in a doctor’s office the morning after Donald Trump’s election, unable to control herself during a routine physical. The 43-year-old Atlanta suburbanite had avoided politics her entire life but was overcome with shock by an outcome she never saw coming.[snip]Mosbacher’s transformation is at the heart of an unprecedented movement inside the Democratic Party. Dubbed “The Resistance,” it has — in the year since Donald Trump’s inauguration — turned countless apolitical women and men into firebrand activists set on remaking the political system. Their fury-driven activism explains why abortion-rights group Emily’s List has been contacted by more than...

Just a decade ago, in the midst of the financial crisis, suburbia’s future seemed perilous, with experts claiming that many suburban tracks were about to become “the next slums.” The head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development proclaimed that “sprawl” was now doomed, and people were “headed back to the city.” This story reflected strong revivals of many core cities, and deep-seated pain in many suburban markets. Yet today, less than a decade later, as we argue in the new book that we co-edited, “Infinite Suburbia,” the periphery remains the dominant, and fastest growing, part of the American...

AFFH (Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing), President Obama’s most radical regulation, continues to go virtually unmentioned in the campaign. You might think a policy that allows big cities to swallow up and control surrounding suburbs would be widely debated and discussed, especially in an election where the suburbs hold the balance of power. Instead, both presidential candidates make a point of avoiding the issue. Meanwhile, it’s become increasingly clear that AFFH is about a great deal more than housing. In truth, this sweepingly transformative regulation creates levers by which the feds can reach into almost every aspect of local government. In...

Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing may be an attempt to create balanced living patterns. Rather than remove discrimination, AFFH leverages it to codify oppression Local rule died in America on July 8, 2015. With it passes the rights of rural and suburban communities to decide their own futures. The trigger was the final 377-page ruling from HUD called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing[ia] that attempts to remove discrimination and achieve balanced and integrated living patterns. As one blogger beams, “What could possibly be wrong with helping low-income families to move into better neighborhoods?” In this case, everything. AFFH is reminiscent of the...

Standing at a Skokie Holiday Inn before a table full of “Obama! Oy Vey!” buttons, Anita Ashe and Ellen Warsaw had a strikingly similar story to tell. The women, both Skokie residents, were born and raised in an environment where voting Democratic was as natural for their families as the Friday Shabbat dinners that were a regular part of their Jewish faith. Despite that political history, Ashe in recent years has found herself attending events sponsored by he Chicago Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition after becoming “more and more conservative as I read more and get perspectives on the...

If you have food reserves, I caution you to take stock of your current situation and decide where you should keep your emergency food. Some of the food you purchase needs to be rotated, such as canned goods, dried eggs, powdered milk and perishables like winter squash, potatoes and other vegetables. The food with the shortest shelf life needs to be accessible so it can be rotated and used faster. I suggest you keep long-term food storage in a room that has a lock and key. It might be necessary to lock it with a dead bolt. Hide an extra...

A dog-eating carnival that derived from a 600-year-old tradition in an east China township has been banned following a wave of public fury, said an official Wednesday. The government stopped the dog-eating carnival held in every October in Qianxi Township, Jinhua City in Zhejiang Province due to resentment voiced on the Internet as well as increasing discontent among villagers, said Zhang Jianhong, a township official. Dogs are slaughtered and skinned in the streets in recent years in Qianxi when an annual commodity fair is held in October, which sparked fierce condemnation after the cruelty was exposed online prior to this...
