Having read Bill Ponton’s very clear “reality check” on the UK’s Net Zero project, you are probably wondering, what are the counter-arguments advanced by the supporters of Net Zero? After all, the Net Zero thing appears to have near-unanimous support in the UK. There is no significant political party in that country that advocates policies dissenting from the Net Zero program, unless you count the UK Independence Party, which at the moment holds zero seats in a House of Commons of 650 members. The currently-governing Conservative Party is fully on board with the Net Zero program, with the partial exception...

The FBI came out empty handed at the remote Pennsylvania site where Civil War-era gold treasure is rumored to be buried, officials said Monday. Dozens of FBI agents, Pennsylvania state officials and members of a treasure-hunting group dug in a rural site where local lore has it that a Civil War-era gold shipment bound for a U.S. Mint in Philadelphia was either lost or hidden around the time of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. President Abraham Lincoln reportedly ordered the shipment to pay Union Army soldiers, according to a local treasure-hunting group called Finders Keepers. The FBI said it conducted...

Has $55million worth of lost gold from the Civil War era been found in central Pennsylvania? That's what locals seem to believe after FBI agents, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and treasure hunters Dennis and Kem Parada were seen digging around a remote area in Benezette Township, called Dents Run. Dennis and his son Kem, the owners of the treasure hunting organization Finders Keepers, have claimed for years that 52 gold bars were buried under a fire pit at Dents Run more than 150 years ago during the Battle of Gettysburg.

When Sgt. Jim Connors tipped back a few too many, he’d talk about the legend of lost Civil War gold, and boast about its whereabouts deep in the hills of Western Pennsylvania. Connors, according to a 1978 United Press International article in the Pittsburgh Press, was part of a special Union detachment tasked with transporting 26 gold bars, each weighing 50 pounds, from West Virginia to the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia in the summer of 1863.According to one version of the story, Connors staggered into Lock Haven, in north-central Pennsylvania, as the lone survivor of an ambush. The gold was...

As a 155-year-old legend goes, a Union Army wagon train left Wheeling, W.Va., before the Battle of Gettysburg, carrying two tons of gold, but never completed its 400-mile mission. The gold was supposed to be used to pay Union soldiers. But it first had to make it to the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, according to the Associated Press. It never did. The wagon train traveled northeast and was last spotted in St. Marys, Pa. Searchers found the wagons and the bodies of dead soldiers — and the gold was gone. But maybe not forever. On Friday, dozens of FBI agents,...

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rev. Francesco Francese kept his Sunday homily at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Broadway short as he encouraged worshipers to “be gentle” with people who stray from the path of God. “It’s our Christian duty to, if we can, to make up for mistakes, and try to help those who are also victims in one way or another,” said Father Francese. “God wants us to give others their due, to never be unjust to them.” As he closed his Bible the sanctuary fell silent. The rousing blend of voices, piano harmonies, and bongo drums associated...

The names, ages, and causes of death of all 796 children who died at St. Mary's Home ... in Tuam, Co. Galway from 1925 to 1960 have been published in full, below. The list is long, and reading it is a horrifying heartbreaking experience - though nowhere near as horrifying as the short lives of the children who died, or as heartbreaking as the sheer number of lost little lives. When she began her research, Catherine Corless ... the local historian who set out to uncover the truth about the bones buried at the site of the former Mother and...

Tricia Wittmann-Todd, the "pastoral life coordinator" who refused to circulate petitions in support of Referendum 74, the ballot measure to roll back Washington's same-sex "marriage" law, even though Archbishop J. Peter Sartain asked parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle to do so, is at it again. This time, in her weekly message to parishioners of St. Mary's Church in Seattle, Tricia is commenting on the sixth and seventh chapter of Acts to imply that same-sex unions are called for because of the demands of "justice." She writes, "This story is a good reminder that ours is a very long and...

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Seeberg, a freshman at neighboring St. Mary's College who had battled depression, apparently overdosed on prescription medication in her own room during the third week of classes in September. The player, meanwhile, has remained on the field. More than two months later, Notre Dame refuses to publicly acknowledge the case, and what actions university officials have taken to investigate her allegation remain...

MORAGA — Saint Mary's College has punished a singing instructor, who is the brother of a college trustee, for his choice to use a song that uses racist terms in a voice class last month. College leaders said Monday the incident called into question Louis Lebherz's future at the school. The musician already has been forced to apologize to the class and to complete diversity training, said Beth Dobkin, the college's provost. Lebherz, an artist in residence at Saint Mary's, had been asked to teach classes this year, Dobkin said. His choice to use the original version of the show...

January 28, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - St. Mary's College in Moraga CA received a black eye this evening as a large and angry crowd of protesters turned out to provide counterpoint to the Ayers' presence. The event was organized by the Simple Justice not Social Justice Coalition' an ad hoc organization comprised of many partners, that came together in response to Ayers. Since the public became aware of the controversial founder of the Weather Underground's scheduled speech, college officials have stubbornly maintained that he was nothing more than a respected professor of education and a proponent...

St. Mary's College was duped into believing it would receive a historic $121 million pledge in an elaborate scheme replete with forged documents and fake identities that led the college to build a science building before any money materialized, according to a report the college released Friday. The scandal began in 1997 when a few St. Mary's officials were introduced to the man who promised the money, Conrad Colbrandt, through a trusted and generous benefactor whose reputation gave Colbrandt instant credibility. The report, by former U.S. Attorney Neal Stephens, plainly states college officials could have averted the disaster had they...
