A Few Texts From Saint Cyril of Jerusalem on the Eucharist I ran across these texts by St Cyril of Jerusalem in his Catechetical Lectures regarding the Eucharist. Recently some "Reformed" Protestants have used his writings to try and support their heresy of Sola Scriptura. In reading the texts in full context, I found no evidence of this whatsoever. In doing this research I ran across these texts pertaining to the Eucharist. Let me ask this simple question. Without applying any sophistry to the texts, who does St. Cyril appear to be in line with concerning Eucharistic doctrine? The...

St. Cyril of Alexandria VATICAN CITY, OCT. 3, 2007.- Here is a translation of the address Benedict XVI delivered today at the general audience in St. Peter's Square. * * * Dear brothers and sisters! Today, continuing our itinerary following the footsteps of the Fathers of the Church, we meet another great figure: St. Cyril of Alexandria. Linked to the Christologic controversy at the Council of Ephesus in 431, and the last outstanding representative of the Alexandrian tradition, Cyril was later defined by the Greek eastern church "the custodian of exactitude" - in the sense of being custodian of the...

On St. Cyril of Jerusalem "His Catechesis Spans God's Entire Plan of Salvation" VATICAN CITY, JUNE 27, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the address Benedict XVI delivered today at the general audience in Paul VI Hall. The reflection focused on St. Cyril of Jerusalem. * * * Dear Brothers and Sisters, Our attention today will be focused on St. Cyril of Jerusalem. His life represents the coming together of two dimensions: on one side, pastoral care and, on the other, involvement in the controversies that weighed upon the Church of the East at that time. Born in 315...

February 14, 2006 Memorial of Saint Cyril, monk, and Saint Methodius, bishop Psalm: Tuesday 10 Reading IJas 1:12-18 Blessed is he who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proven he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him.No one experiencing temptation should say,“I am being tempted by God”;for God is not subject to temptation to evil, and he himself tempts no one.Rather, each person is tempted when lured and enticed by his desire. Then desire conceives and brings forth sin,and when sin reaches maturity it gives birth to death. Do not be deceived, my beloved...
