Try this one, if you will. Umpires can botch home run calls (hello, Angel Hernandez) and get away with it, more or less. Sometimes, they can botch pitching change rules (hello, Fielden Culbreth) with a little help from managers who don’t know the rules quite yet (hello, Bo Porter). But who knew our beloved human elements (aren’t you getting exhausted of that tiresome phrase and its customary accompanying rhetoric?) could miss a no-questions-asked application from the latest inductee into the Salivation Army? In the second inning Monday night, Miami Marlins righthander Alex Sanabia had just been taken into the seats...

U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.” If true, the reports indicate that Patterson shirked her obligation to protect U.S. interests, Nightwatch states.

Did the State Department ban Marines from carrying ammo at the U.S. embassy in Cairo? That's what some are reporting, as well as claiming our Ambassador to Egypt, Anne Patterson, had forbidden it. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin has called for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, saying it's the only solution after recent religious violence in that nation. Harkin's comments place him among the first members of Congress to publicly state that the war in Iraq has become a fight between Muslim factions. The criticism follows a CBS poll last week that showed 65 percent of respondents disapproved of President Bush's handling of the war, his worst marks since the war started three years ago. A White House spokesman says retreat before victory would be reckless.

In this war freedom should come first not after! In New Hampshire the Motto is Live free or Die! I don't need Bush spying on law abiding americans and taking our freedoms. Anyone who surrenders a square inch of freedom to the government in the name of saftey is a traitor and should be treated like one! Let the Bush Fashists all drop dead! Filthy Commys! LET FREEDOM RING!

Strip the Army of those Bradley Fighting Vehicles[1] used in the Golf War. And take away the big M-1 Abrams Tanks[2] the Army likes so well. Strip the Navy of the last few fancy Aircraft Carriers[3] so popular to provide air cover. Then, scrap the Aegis anti aircraft system[4] the Navy depends on to search, track and guide missile functions. Scrap those P-3 Orion[5] upgrades, too. The Navy doesn't really need the better anti-submarine warfare aircraft. Over at the Air Force, let's get rid of the B2 stealth bomber[6] that sneaks in on targets and wages destruction. Also get rid...

From DU (GET READY THE SPITBALLS ARE ON THE WAY!) " For months I have been predicting a Kerry landslide, something on the order of 60/40. I now doubt that it will work out that way and in fact I am becomming convinced that we are going to lose this election. We do not have to lose it, but if John Kerry and John Edwards contine to lay down in the face of filth like that spewed by Zell Miller this past week we do not stand a chance. That 11 point bounce we all deny exists is real and...

NEW YORK - Before a recent rally for President Bush in Las Cruces, N. M., campaign officials showed the crowd a video featuring John Kerry's shifting explanations of his stands on issues. The audience broke into laughter toward the end as a catchy theme from a popular `60s TV show accompanied the clip: "They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning/ No one you see is smarter than he." That tack was hardly unusual. In fact, on the campaign trail and at this week's Republican convention, Bush and other GOP speakers reduced Kerry to a punch line: a flip-flopping Boston...

...a focus group conducted with 17 independent voters in Ohio by GOP pollster Frank Luntz for MSNBC drew a mostly positive response. These voters, Luntz said, did not care for Miller's attacks on the Democratic Party because they were too "broad-brush," but the attacks on Kerry resonated because Miller anchored his criticism in specific arguments about Kerry's record. "They liked facts," Luntz said. "They're not responding to style. They're asking for a level of detail." The group, in which voters turned dials to register reaction to each line of the speech, thought the most "memorable" passage of Miller's speech was...

My wife and I were talking yesterday about Zell Miller's great speech and his line about "U.S. forces armed with what? Spitballs?" inspired us. Is Kerry coming to your community? If not, is there a Kerry campaign office near you? Here are a couple of ideas about helping to keep Kerry's embarrassingly weak position on national security in thepublic mind. First, get some straws (used for shooting spitballs, as you remember from when you had a substitute teacher.) Mark them "M-16D [for Democrat] -- courtesy of John Kerry." Use them to simulate firing spitballs at each other --after all, we...

A NATION OF PEACE It’s two thousand and five, and I’m allowed to say A short piece about America, and how it is today. Now my story starts with how the last election went— We got a new commander-in-chief, a.k.a. president. Now there were people in the world who wanted to do us harm But our new commander-in-chief said, “There’s no cause for alarm. I’m sure they’re good folks, so it won’t be so grim, They won’t attack us if we just don’t offend them. So we can save a lot of money if our arsenal is cut down, I’ve...

Fury in Dem-Land: Bloggers Want Kerry to Hit Back By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Morning Editor September 02, 2004 (CNSNews.com) - Democrats on Thursday described Republicans as the "angry party," but rank-and-file Democrats were the ones venting their fury on Republicans -- via a Democrat-sponsored blog, calling "Kicking A**." Many of the people posting comments on the "daily dispatches" website said it's time for Kerry to fight back. What's he waiting for, they asked. "Last night, the Republican Party proved once and for all that it has nothing to offer the American people," says the Democratic National Committee's Kicking A** website....

U.S. Senator Zell Miller Bush-Cheney '04 Leadership Meeting Columbus, Georgia May 15, 2004 I'm still amazed when I get such a warm welcome from Republican audiences. And very pleased. I'm afraid that my old Democratic ties that bind have become unraveled. But that's all right. For in my heart and in my head, I know I'm doing the right thing. I know where I am going and I know why I am going there. I know we have a strong Commander-in-Chief, guided by the right principles and I know that my family and the people of this nation are...
