On September 12, 2008, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced the Serve America Act (S.3487). This legislation establishes a commission to study ways in which the federal government and businesses can more effectively collaborate with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations to address pressing national and local challenges.
