On September 12, 2008, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced the Serve America Act (S.3487). This legislation establishes a commission to study ways in which the federal government and businesses can more effectively collaborate with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations to address pressing national and local challenges. S.3487 also expands the ServeAmerica Corps, provides college tax credit to students, awards states and nonprofit organizations grants, and gives tax incentives to businesses who's employees commit to serve.
