My email from Mel Martinez re:Serve America Act...He supports it!
email | 3/24/09 | Mel Martinez

Dear Mrs. xxxxx:

Thank you for contacting me regarding serving America. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to take this opportunity to respond.

On September 12, 2008, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced the Serve America Act (S.3487). This legislation establishes a commission to study ways in which the federal government and businesses can more effectively collaborate with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations to address pressing national and local challenges. S.3487 also expands the ServeAmerica Corps, provides college tax credit to students, awards states and nonprofit organizations grants, and gives tax incentives to businesses who's employees commit to serve. The Serve America Act has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. Although I do not serve on this committee, I will be sure to keep your support in mind should the Senate consider this legislation.

Like you, I believe it is imperative for Congress to work together to produce legislation that address the growing need for volunteering. Community service provides invaluable support for our nation, and it is even more important that Americans continue down the paths that lead to a lifetime of service and improved opportunities. I will continue to work hard to ensure that Americans have the resources available to them in order to succeed.

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, for more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at http://martinez.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

Mel Martinez United States Senator

Flipping RINO. And to make me even madder, he words it like I support it too. It is almost as if this email was a copy and paste from what Obama sent him on the bill.

Please call and email him and let him know how you feel. All you need is a name and zip to call and register your views. Any 330__ zip will be in Florida and likely all 331__ as well.

And I hope and pray that Florida does NOT elect Crist as Senator as Martinez’ replacement. We don’t need another RINO replacing a RINO!

Come on, Florida, you can give us someone better!

The Clown Congress is going to mandate volunteerism? Why does that seem like something only the deranged would try to do? How can you MANDATE someone to be a VOLUNTEER?

Hey Mel, it’s not voluntary if it’s mandatory

How different from this drivel was the language CASTRO used to call Cuban youth to national service?

let’s just call them “Young Pioneers” shall we?

I don’t like to throw the word “fascism” around lightly but we’re seeing the clearest example of it that most of us have seen in our lifetimes.

Forced service, threats to business (do things our way or we’re seizing your company), targeting and demonizing private individuals, targeting and demonizing social classes.

I haven’t followed Crist too closely since leaving Florida 3 years ago, but my impression is that he passed RINO some time ago.

I have that opinion primarily because of his stand on “eminent domain”. Which is basically, it’s fine under pretty much any circumstances. Oh, and his solar/windmill lunacy.

Oh, and illogical is it seems, the QT tan, also.

I sent him an e-mail letting him know I think he should change his opinion on this bill, that it is not supported by his constituents.

Bless you. I hope many others follow your lead. Mel needs to have his head smacked into a cyber wall a few times to understand what this bill really means.

And this surprises someone?

Martinez is not running for re-election because he knows he would be defeated by anything that breathes - and maybe even by something that is not breathing.
