WASHINGTON, June 20 — Federal environmental officials misled Lower Manhattan residents about the extent of contamination in their condominiums and apartments after the collapse of the World Trade Center, according to a preliminary report released on Wednesday by the Government Accountability Office. According to the report, made public during a Senate subcommittee hearing, the Environmental Protection Agency did not accurately report the results of a residential cleanup program in 2002 and 2003. More than 4,000 apartments in Lower Manhattan were professionally decontaminated in that program, and the agency reported that only a “very small” number of air samples taken in...

Conservatives have responded with outrage at Hillary Clinton's denunciation of American society (under Republicans) as one where you are "on-your-own" in a speech last week. And well they might, for she tells a narrative about an America they never heard of. Senator Clinton reminded her listeners at Manchester School for Technology about the United States of a century ago before progressives began their reforms. She told them it was a land of corporate monopolies, corrupt government, women without votes, workers without rights, "a country filled with haves and have nots -- and not enough people in between." In what way, we...

January 7, 2007 Iran with nuclear weapons is unacceptable, new House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told The Jerusalem Post hours after entering the party leadership position. The Maryland Democrat said the view is shared by his party, rejecting assertions that the Democrats would be weaker than the Republicans on Iran. He also said that all options, including nuclear, were on the table. March 6, 2007, Senator Kennedy, “There is no question that Iran’s developing nuclear capability is a clear threat, and must be removed by any means necessary”. April 10, 2007, Senator Clinton, “Iran is threatening to destroy Israel with...

NEW YORK Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton says she has apologized to her daughter for recent comments about young people -- and work. Clinton said at a gathering in Washington last week that young people "think work is a four letter word" and they have a sense of entitlement after growing up in a "culture that has a premium on instant gratification." Clinton told a commencement audience yesterday that her daughter, Chelsea, phoned to complain after learning about the comments, telling her mom "I do work hard and my friends work hard." New York's junior senator says she just wants to...

YONKERS -- Senator Clinton has shafted middle class Taxpayers in New York by voting against Alternative Minimum Tax relief contained in the President's tax cut extension bill. Under the AMT, taxpayers with incomes over $60,000 lose deductions. By raising the exemption from the AMT, the tax cut extension bill which Senator Clinton opposed prevented a $31 billion tax increase on 15 million middle class families. The bill prevented $2 billion in tax increases on 900,000 New York families. The bill also extended the cuts on capital gains and dividends which are especially helpful to New Yoke since Wall Street is...

Ann Coulter...was definitely Friday’s biggest draw at CPAC 2006. From the get-go the conservative columnist had the crowd cheering and was frequently interrupted by applause. Many of Coulter’s talking points came from recent news events -- such as “the great Danish cartoon caper” and President Bush’s Supreme Court nominees. “Muslims are the only group who kill because people call them violent,” she said of Islam’s rage over the printing of Muhammad cartoons. Speaking about the nation's highest court, Coulter not only expressed elation at Justice Samuel Alito’s confirmation, she also shared her feelings on Chief Justice John Roberts ... She...

Two elected Democrats took the occasion of Martin Luther King’s birthday celebration on 16 January to give race-baiting speeches before black audiences. One did it because he is stupid. The other did it because she thinks blacks are stupid. Both dishonored the memory of King, who had a dream that “all God’s children would be judged not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character.” In New Orleans, outside City Hall, Mayor Ray Nagin called for “black people … to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be...

It was a powerful argument for war made by a politician with long years of experience in the White House. "(I)ntelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability and his nuclear program," said this national leader. "(I)f left unchecked," the politician argued, "Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capability to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too...

ASHINGTON, March 17 - Senate Democrats on Thursday questioned Dr. Lester M. Crawford, President Bush's choice to lead the Food and Drug Administration, about why the agency had so far refused to allow over-the-counter sales of the morning-after pill Plan B. "What has disturbed many of us is what appears is political interference in a scientific process," said Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Democrat of New York. "We rely on the F.D.A. for everything we take, and I am hopeful that we will reverse what appears to be a dangerous slide into political opinion as opposed to scientific evidence." Senators Edward...

WASHINGTON, April 22 - In 1969, Hillary Rodham, then a student, wound up on the pages of Life magazine after giving a defiant commencement speech at Wellesley College that reflected the antiwar sentiment and political turmoil of the era. "We're not in the positions yet of leadership and power, but we do have that indispensable task of criticizing and constructive protest,'' she said, taking aim at the featured commencement speaker, Senator Edward W. Brooke, a Republican from Massachusetts who urged support for the Vietnam War in his address. Fairly or not, Hillary Rodham Clinton's image on defense has been largely...

But Clinton also said that flaws in federal homeland security programs mean too little money is being funneled to some communities, and none at all to others. “We still haven’t got the funding stream right,” said Clinton, a Democrat.

Some of the basic homeland security grant money is divided evenly among all the states, meaning that smaller states get much more money per-capita than does New York, which is more populous and at greater risk of terrorist attack.

The first rule of testifying before Committees of Congress, which I’ve done on several occasions, is this: Be polite to the Members of Congress. Last week during the testimony of Dr. David Kay, former Chief Weapons Inspector for Iraq, before the Senate Armed Forces Committee, at least four instances cried out for an exception to that rule. The worst such example arose at the end of the questioning by Senator Mark Dayton, D-Minn. First, he asked Dr. Kay “How many nations have WMD capabilities?” Kay answered that “about fifty countries have such capacities.” Dayton then mused that the United States...

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton apologized for joking that Mahatma Gandhi used to run a gas station in St. Louis, saying it was "a lame attempt at humor." The New York Democrat made the remark at a fund-raiser Saturday. During an event here for Senate candidate Nancy Farmer, Clinton introduced a quote from Gandhi by saying, "He ran a gas station down in St. Louis." After laughter from many in the crowd of at least 200 subsided, the former first lady continued, "No, Mahatma Gandhi was a great leader of the 20th century." In a nod to...

Bill Maher has made another stab at career suicide. The Bush-bashing comic stunned some of Hollywood's most powerful liberals by joking about Bill Clinton's sexual indiscretions at a benefit honoring Sen. Hillary Clinton. New York's junior Senator was accepting an Oceana Partners award in Los Angeles last Wednesday for her work on environmental issues. Maher emceed the event, which also honored marine explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau, as well as Ron Howard and his Imagine partner, Brian Glazer. Among the unamused in the audience were Oceana board member Ted Danson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kiefer Sutherland, Diane Lane, Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal and Kirsten...
