REPORTING FROM SACRAMENTO -- Two public employee unions today sued Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to block his effort to furlough state workers to cut costs as California's treasury runs out of money. Last week, Schwarzenegger issued an executive order to require that all state employees take two unpaid days off each month starting in February. The governor said the measure is needed to conserve cash, with the state budget gap estimated to reach $42 billion a year and a half from now.

We were all awakened late last week to a disclosure that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger paid substantial sums from his political accounts after the election to four key aides in his administration. If this does not tell the people of California that this Governor is no better than the last, then I do not know what will. The funds paid out to the key staff members were characterized as ‘bonuses’ and paid to the Governor’s chief of staff, his communications director, the governor’s personal assistant and the first lady’s chief of staff. All of these individuals are full-time state employees. The...

  • White flag vanity: Will/should McClintock be offered a BIG post in Arnold's administration?

I say yes. If there's bad blood, it's no more than between Bush Sr. and Reagan after the 1980 primaries. Remember Bush Sr. talked of REagan's "voodoo economics". McClintock has pulled his punches re. Arnold; he didn't fire at him at the debate. McClintock has elevated the issues discussion and kept Arnold from straying too far left. Besides that, we could USE McClintock's expertise in a high budget and policymaking post. The only argument I could see on the other side is that McC would be better groomed to take on Boxer in the US Senate race.
  • Schwarzenegger Hit by Egg at Speech

Arnold Schwarzenegger skipped the initial debate of California's recall election Wednesday and delivered what was billed as his first major campaign speech, getting pelted with an egg as he waded through a crowd at a college campus. Unfazed when the egg hit his left shoulder, the action hero peeled off his coat and went ahead with a 15-minute speech in which he asserted that he is running for governor to give something back to a state responsible for his success. ``You have such a fantastic life, Arnold, you make millions of dollars to do movies and all those kinds of...
