Everyone who has listened to gunshots in close proximity knows some cartridges are much louder than others. In the other direction, some cartridges are much quieter than others.Everyone understands a .22 LR out of a rifle is much quieter than a .338 magnum out of a rifle. Not as widely understood, loads for the same cartridge vary widely in how loud gunshots are perceived. The .22 Long Rifle cartridge is a good example. The highest energy .22 LR cartridges, such as the Aguila Interceptor and the CCI Velocitor, are much louder than CCI Standard Velocity, even though all are firing 40-grain...

Recently, a deranged leftist (pardon the redundancy) got angry with me for talking publicly about my firearms collection. Apparently, he not only opposes my ownership of guns but also does not want me to discuss them. In other words, he is one of those Beto O’Rourke leftists seeking to eviscerate both the First and Second Amendments. He even decided to write one of my bosses and petition for my termination after I refused to stop tweeting about firearms. So I am going to respond to his demands in the only reasonable way I can: I’m going to start writing about...
  • Tricking out your Ruger 10/22

I'm convinced that the Ruger 10/22 is the most popular .22 rifle of all time. Not only is it a great little rifle right out of the box, but there are probably a million aftermarket items available that enhance its functionality even further, making it the most “trick-out-able” gun on the market. Not bad for a rifle that first hit the market in 1964. The 10/22 became my go-to rifle pretty quickly. How could I not love it? It’s extremely dependable, accurate and, as I mentioned, you can trick it out as much as you want. But it was my...

Exclusive: Creek Stewart makes case for flexible, functional firearm Gun ownership is a hot topic right now. There is no doubt our constitutional right to bear arms is under assault. Legal gun owners are being singled out, scrutinized and publicly black-listed. The imminent threat of more gun bans and restrictions has prompted many law-abiding citizens to evaluate their arsenals. The newly proposed “ban bills” have compelled many to stock up on certain guns, accessories and calibers of ammunition. Though certainly not intentional, this is the first thing Obama has done in five years to stimulate our economy. The line to...

Gun and Rifle manufacturers, I want your attention. I've been looking for a rifle/shotgun to take on a long hike, and there's not many choices. Take a look at Henry's U.S. Survival AR-7. It's a good product for backpacking, but too small on caliber. The fact that when it's packed inside its waterproof stock, it can float if dropped into water, and can be retrieved and will still work, is a great deciding factor. But being a .22LR is a detractor. Now take a look at the Rossi Circuit Judge and their many different variations. I like the 3-inch Magnum...
  • Ruger 10/22 owners: Butler Creek is producing 25rnd "hot lips" magazines again(vanity/FYI)

just an FYI for fellow Ruger 10/22 rifle owners: The AWB-caused (and lamentable) ten-year dearth of new Butler Creek 25 round capacity "Hot Lips" magazines is at an end. I recently purchased a fair number of them from Michaels of Oregon. @ $25 apiece. Expected them in 4-6 weeks, they arrived in one week. All perfectly functional. Well worth the price. Figured y'all'd want to know they're available again.
