Fox News unveiled a redesign of its website yesterday to highlight more non-hard news and politics coverage to its audience coming to the homepage and provide more “brand safe” content to advertisers, said Porter Berry, evp and editor-in-chief of Fox News Digital. Three advertising agency executives who spoke with Digiday said these changes have the potential to draw in new advertisers and budgets. They declined to share if their clients were currently advertising on Fox News’ sites. “Anytime a publisher is taking a moment to think about what is going to be the best way for consumers to experience their...
  • Toll road authority explains $300 million 'fix' for Ship Channel Bridge project

HOUSTON - The Harris County Toll Road Authority now has an expensive plan to fix design flaws in its billion-dollar replacement of the Ship Channel Bridge. The original structure was finished in 1982. But, with just two lanes in each direction and no shoulder for emergencies, construction on a replacement was started in 2018. HCTRA’s Executive Director Roberto Trevino was hired after flaws were discovered in the design, and he says the danger could have been catastrophic. "It could have collapsed," he says. Trevino says the county wanted the new bridge to be sleek and iconic, resembling the Fred Hartman...
  • This Japanese toilet should make Americans very worried

I remember about 10 years ago, I was watching a National Geographic show about a hunter-gatherer tribe in Papua New Guinea. The men were running around in loincloths with spears, hunting animals, making offerings to the gods — you know, typical primitive-tribe stuff. But okay, I don't judge... we're all descended from people like that. ......................................................... I suspect that the real reason we don't adopt Japanese toilets is the very fact that people are so eager to give reasons not to. We've grown used to the idea that everything good is invented in America. If it wasn't invented here, it...

Yahoo Mail users are furious after the company debuted a major resign of the popular email service that eliminated many features and, some claim, left it looking like a knock off of competitor Gmail. Observers say the 'beautiful' new look of Yahoo Mail is a product of new Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer - and it has backfired. The mail service's 275million users were 'surprised' on October 8 with the redesign and tens of thousands have complained about glitches and reduced functionality. Many simply don't like the look and feel of the new product.
  • Is the Google News Redesign a Repeat of the New Coke Disaster?

The Official Google Blog announced that the company was "revamping the Google News homepage" on Wednesday. It's only Saturday, but I already think the Google News redesign is a repeat of The Coca-Cola Company's New Coke disaster in 1985. My first indication that Google was in trouble came from comments to my post on Thursday entitled, Google News Redesign Offers "News for You." Brad said, "The new Google News blows! I want the old one back. I shouldn't need to log in each time I want to check the top news stories (I switch between 5 different computers during a...

WASHINGTON -- The panel that NASA appointed to probe the destruction of the Columbia and the deaths of its nine-person crew won't address the merits of undertaking a major redesign of the shuttle to fly it with robots instead of people or to install a much better crew escape system, the panel's chairman revealed Tuesday. The Feb. 1 accident prompted scattered calls in Congress and academia for scrapping crews aboard the three remaining shuttle orbiters and led the agency's own safety advisers to urge, at a minimum, the rapid creation of an improved escape system. But the panel has elected...
