Consumer spending came to a halt last month: Retail sales fell 0.3% from the prior month, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday. A 24-year-old Honduran immigrant who’s charged with murder in the brutal stabbing death of a Florida man had crossed the US border illegally months earlier while posing as an unaccompanied minor, an investigation by The Post found. A Georgia man is suspected of gunning down eight people in three mass shootings at massage parlors that are primarily staffed by Asian women in Atlanta and a nearby suburb on Tuesday evening, police said. California’s Proposition 47 reduced a number of “non-serious, nonviolent crimes” that had previously been considered felonies to misdemeanors. Among those crimes were shoplifting, grand theft, receiving stolen property, forgery, fraud, and writing bad checks. The recent 35% increase in truck only tolls on roadways in Indiana has led to some unintended consequences – truckers are now avoiding the toll roads altogether and are instead using back roads not meant for large commercial vehicles. Violent crime, including murders, are increasing in Denver and Colorado, according to new statistics from police and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Murders in Colorado have jumped 27 percent in the last three years. In 2015 there were 173 murders, while there were 220 in 2017. ... murders in Denver have increased six percent in the last year. Nonpartisan legislative analysts and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget office agreed Thursday that revenue dropped $67 million below expectations between January and April, adding to this year’s budget deficit. The increase in tax revenue anticipated following the April 15 deadline wasn’t realized, according to budget analysts. In fact, personal income tax collections fell $65.5 million short of projections. Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes had forecasted 25 percent growth in personal income tax receipts.
