Idaho farmers are in danger of having their water shut off. The water shutoff order affects half a million acres of farmland and about 6,400 people who use the water. Without water, their farmland is worthless. The state of Idaho has put a water curtailment order, which is basically a water shutoff order on literally a half million acres of farmland. Many farming this land have already invested in thousands of acres, thousands of dollars per acre, to grow potatoes. It’s too late for them to survive without water. Why is the water being cut off? Essentially, this curtailment...

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is urging the White House to swap chicken eggs for potatoes at their annual Easter Egg Roll this year. The controversial organization wrote in a letter to First Lady Jill Biden that it wants to “suggest an appealing way to modernize the White House Easter Egg Roll,” which is set for April 1st on the South Lawn. […] … PETA President Ingrid Newkirk states … a ”potato roll” would not “exploit any sentient beings and would encourage empathy and kindness to animals while supporting potato farmers in the U.S.” …

The National Potato Council isn't happy about this potential change.According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, when Americans eat vegetables, they’re mostly eating potatoes and tomatoes. In 2019, the average American downed almost 50 pounds of potatoes over the course of the year, and ate around 31 pounds of tomatoes — and it’s not totally surprising that French fries and pizza sauce significantly contributed to our annual totals. But in the future, when the USDA starts adding up our yearly veggie totals, tomatoes may take the top spot on a technicality. Because there’s a chance that the...

Weather unpredictability and above normal rainfall has made it a difficult year for the agricultural sector. Most farmers were affected in some way or another and right now, potato growers are facing serious crop losses as waterlogged fields impede this year’s harvest. In a ten-hectare field just outside Enniscorthy, County Wexford, potato grower Sean Ryan is assessing conditions. As he walks between the drills, his boots squelch in three inches of water as this part of the potato field is waterlogged. […] Most of the potatoes he digs are rotten, soft like butter and giving off a foul smell. At...

(Last Updated On: January 31, 2023) NATIONAL TATER TOT DAY On February 2nd, National Tater Tot Day recognizes a kitchen staple. In the United States, we consume approximately 3.5 billion of these nuggets of potato goodness per year. #NationalTaterTotDay These bite-sized bits of golden deliciousness created from the scraps from making French fries once were used to feed cattle. But how do the cast-offs from making French fries become the bite-sized, kitchen-friendly morsels we love to devour today? Through persistence and ingenuity, of course! Two brothers, Nephi and Golden Grigg, along with their brother-in-law started dabbling in frozen food when...

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (King James Version) The Republic of Texas is getting the most incredible reviews I ever imagined. I get it, how could some nobody from Tualatin OR write anything worth reading but people are really believing in this story as a message of God’s power. The basic storyline is America goes bankrupt from too much Socialism which causes Texas to leave the union and becomes the most powerful country in the world....

Have you seen President Trump's powerful 4 minute video message? Don't miss it!A NATION IN DECLINE Q is the result of the sacrifices and commitment of countless patriots to win back our captured country from the Deep State and achieve the transformation President Trump promised in this campaign video. President Trump has said the awakening of the public is key to this transformation.Q describes this awakening as follows: "The Great Awakening ('Freedom of Thought’), was designed and created not only as a backchannel to the public (away from the longstanding 'mind’ control of the corrupt & heavily biased media) to...

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency wants to know what people think about the size of canned, cubed, white potatoes -- but if you want to know exactly who asked for the change or why this is a priority exercise, you're out of luck. CFIA launched a month-long consultation on Jan. 21 after saying it had received a request from "industry" to change the maximum allowed size of diced, canned potatoes from 10 millimetres to 20 millimetres. "Yes, we care about all potatoes -- big and small," The tweet was met with great delight by some Twitter users who jumped at...

His own track record isn’t spotless. In 1985, as AIDS was overwhelming American gay communities, Young used a homophobic slur in an interview and said of gays and the virus, “You go to a supermarket and you see a f— behind the f— cash register, you don’t want him to handle your potatoes.”

Leftists who rallied behind behind legendary rock and roller Neil Young after his ultimatum to Spotify to cancel Joe Rogan and his immensely popular podcast or he would pull his music from the streaming service may have been singing a different tune if they were aware of his past homophobia. While the septuagenarian rocker who flipped sides from opposing “the man” during the turbulent 1960s to becoming a protector of an abusive government in his old age came up with the short end of the stick when Spotify sided with Rogan, the damage to his image with those who sided...

This is specifically the #1 precursor, for all the reasons previously mentioned. Do not be alarmed; be prudent. What are you seeing in your area? Feel free to note in the comments section what is happening in your area. Hopefully, most of us are much better positioned than the average person who has not been following this as closely over the past several months. Initial food instability signs in the supply chain. Things to look for: (1) A shortage of processed potatoes (frozen specifically). 1.a And/Or a shortage of the ancillary products that are derivatives of, or normally include, potatoes....

A ‘fry-tening’ supply chain problem has materialized for McDonald’s Holdings Co. Japan is forcing it to ration french fries for at least a week due to a potatoes shortage. Beginning on Friday, Japanese consumers desiring a classic Big Mac will be barred from ordering medium- and large-sized french fries. They will be only allowed to order small french fries as the company blames massive flooding in Vancouver for its soggy mess and attempts to source spuds elsewhere. About 2,900 McDonald’s restaurants in the country will experience french fry rationing for at least this week “to ensure that as many customers...

Potatoes tend to be a dieting no-no for people laying off of starchy foods and carbohydrates. In that same light, French fries often fall into the “junk food” category as eaters cover them in ketchup and salt. Now, a new study finds this popular vegetable may be getting a bum rap. Researchers from Purdue University say eating more potatoes can actually help keep blood pressure under control better than taking certain supplements.

In honor of Mr. Potato Head’s ‘transitioning’ - (from what-to-what I’m not exactly sure, as I’ve always understood potatoes to be, in Nature, self-pollinating and containing both sexes in one plant anyway) - I thought we’d do a thread on SPUDS this month. I like potatoes done certain ways, and despise them other ways. I like baked potatoes (with plenty of butter and sour cream), and home-made potato salad, mashed potatoes, scalloped, etc. I do NOT like potatoes cut up into soups, or store-bought potato salad (in the latter, the potatoes are always undercooked, and the salad is always strangely...

Democratic presidential candidate former Vice-President Joe Biden told CNN's Anderson Cooper and town hall viewers that "China is not our enemy. If they were they wouldn't have given my son a billion dollar deal. I'll grant you that China hasn't been a perfect global citizen. From time to time they've stolen our technology. And every deadly respiratory virus seems to emanate from there. But these are all minor flaws—mistakes and bad luck that could've happened to anyone." In a response to a potato farmer's question about why there are so many unnecessary regulations impeding her work, Biden advised the woman...

I originally began this cooking thread because – during my many years as a ‘lurker’ here before signing up – I greatly enjoyed the annual Thanksgiving cooking threads that I would see. (Somewhere on my hard drive, I’m sure I have many Freeper recipes that were posted over the years before I officially arrived on the scene.) Now, the holiday season is getting into gear, and Thanksgiving is on the near horizon once again. Please share with us your family favorites, traditions, and your memories of this very American of holidays. We’ve noted many times before that people really don’t...

The diet helped Andrew Flinders Taylor lose weight—but is it safe? “Make your food boring and your life interesting.” That’s one lesson Andrew Flinders Taylor points out in a Youtube video he posted last December, where he detailed all of the things he learned after eating potatoes for every meal, every single day, for nearly a year. That’s right: Potatoes all day, every day. The potato diet sounds absolutely crazy, but for Taylor, who weighed in at 334 pounds when his experiment began, it led to noticeable results. The Australian native dropped 117 pounds after one year of the “Spud...
