SACRAMENTO – For the first time, California has started to map an all-in-one strategy to safeguard an economically vital network of highways, railroads and energy supply lines crisscrossing the heart of the state. This post-Hurricane Katrina response broadens the state's initial list of priorities beyond levees and aqueducts to target overlooked lifelines centered in the Sacramento Delta that are just as vital to the state's fiscal well-being, from San Diego to Silicon Valley. A natural disaster in the delta could disrupt the delivery of goods and services along roads, rail lines and deep-water ports. Pacific Gas and Electric Co. facilities...

NEW ORLEANS - Jane Anderson misses the old days — the days right after Hurricane Katrina when National Guardsmen with rifles roamed the street outside the New Orleans shop where she works. The days when there weren't many people around and crime was down sharply. "I know it's still pretty safe," Anderson says. "But it doesn't feel that way. We're hearing about more things happening, more murders, more bad guys returning." Murder is making a comeback in New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS - A steady stream of voters, some from storm-scarred neighborhoods and others by the busload from evacuee havens across the nation, cast their first ballots since Hurricane Katrina in a crucial election Saturday to decide who oversees how their city is rebuilt. Incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin predicted he would lead the field, but he faced 21 challengers, including the state's lieutenant governor. If none gets more than 50 percent, a runoff between the top two vote-getters will be held May 20. Because of the Aug. 29 storm, what ordinarily would be a routine municipal race has become an...

RUSH: I want to warn you, some of you people out there are loaded for bear. I've been reading the e-mail today, and I just want to warn you, I'm in a fabulous mood today. I'm in a good mood, so don't expect me to be fit to be tied and angry and all that sort of stuff. I understand a lot of you are. A lot of you think, "Well, whatever, what's the difference now between conservatives and liberals, Rush? I mean big spending, big spending, what the hell, it's over with." I mean, I've just got reams of...

As a result of the repudiation of Judeo-Christian values, we are witnessing the ascendance of the feminine in Western society. There are two reasons for this. One is the overriding belief in equality, which to those who reject Judeo-Christian values means sameness. Judeo-Christian values emphatically affirm the equality of the sexes. In fact, given that the creation story in Genesis proceeds from primitive to elevated, the last creation, woman, can easily be seen as the most elevated of the creations. Every man knows how much a good woman helps him transcend his animal nature. Judeo-Christian values do not conflate equality...
