RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Wake County Board of Education could vote next week to remove three books from the school system's required reading list. Called2Action, a parents group, objects to Alice Walker's "The Color Purple," Robert Cormier's "The Chocolate War" and Toni Morrison's "Beloved," saying the novels contain vulgar language and graphic sexual content. "The Color Purple" won the Pulitzer Prize for literature, and Toni Morrison's "Beloved" won a Nobel Prize. Still, the group says the books are not appropriate for middle-school and high-school students. "I couldn't read these excerpts over the air (on television)," said Steve Noble, a member...

To interested parties. Early Monday morning FR member BykrBayb and I were able to recreate the deleted portions of the WeAreFamilyFoundation.org website by pulling files form Google's cache and cross referencing deleted pdf files with files of the same exact name on Tolerance.org. (Thread here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1327041/posts) We discovered deleted portions of the site which contained resources for teachers to go along with the video. From my brief reading these resources seem to be heavy with gay-agenda material. This is the site which is behind the new "tolerance and diversity" video which uses over 100 well know childrens characters to push...

I don't know if this poll is even worth freeping but it indicates news journalism gone mad! This is even more distasteful than their poll yesterday asking if the Inauguration was a great day, a good day or a bad day. Thanks Freepers for blowing that poll off their website! KOMU.com E-Poll Is SpongeBob SquarePants saying it's OK to be gay? Yes.: 20% No.: 8% Spongebob is a sponge!: 72% Total Votes: 79

SpongeBob in crosshairs The New York Times WASHINGTON — On the heels of electoral victories to bar same-sex marriage, some influential conservative Christian groups are turning their attention to a new target: the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said that SpongeBob's creators have enlisted SpongeBob in a “pro-homosexual video,” in which he appeared with other children's television characters. The makers of the video, Dobson said, plan to mail it to thousands of elementary schools this spring to promote a “tolerance pledge” that includes tolerance for differences of “sexual identity.”

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 - On the heels of electoral victories barring same-sex marriage, some influential conservative Christian groups are turning their attention to a new target: the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants. "Does anybody here know SpongeBob?" Dr. James C. Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family, asked the guests Tuesday night at a black-tie dinner for members of Congress and political allies to celebrate the election results. SpongeBob needed no introduction. In addition to his popularity among children, who watch his cartoon show, he has become a well-known camp figure among adult gay men, perhaps because he holds hands...
