Berdovsky has been contracted by First Night Boston to stage a $50,000 electronic show that will be the centerpiece of the 2014 New Year’s celebration in Copley Square. But Menino’s office scoffed at the idea that Berdovsky might be a poor choice for a city-sponsored event so close to the scene and time of the deadly April 15 marathon bombing attacks.

BOSTON (AP) -- One of the men criminally charged after placing blinking cartoon advertisements around the city videotaped a police bomb squad removing one of the electronic devices, but did not tell the officers the object was harmless. Surveillance cameras caught 27-year-old Peter Berdovsky videotaping officers removing what they thought was a possible bomb.

The bomb hoax bozos whose light-up devices sparked a Boston terror panic were caught on camera standing with spectators and filming the massive police response, the Herald has learned. Transit police surveillance photos taken at the Sullivan Square MBTA Orange Line station as police swarmed around one of the suspicious devices Wednesday morning clearly show the two men, sources said. Peter Berdovsky, 28, was photographed holding a video camera filming the police response, including the transit bomb squad cop blowing up the device at 10:21 a.m. His prankster partner Sean Stevens, 27, stood alongside him.'
