The Arkansas Senate voted to permanently block the state's governor from ever imposing another mask mandate. The bill now moves to the state's House of Representatives. The measure was approved by the Senate on Wednesday, one day after Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson allowed the statewide mask mandate to expire after it was initially put in place in July 2020. Hutchinson said it was unlikely he'd reimpose the mandate, but he did not rule it out. To make sure a government-mandated mask edict can never be imposed again, the Senate voted 20-9 to ban all mandatory face-covering requirements, citing the undue...

We've got some fashion awards for this past week's "Peoples' Choice Awards"; some fashion awards you might not ever have heard of. Plus my doubts about how much of a "peoples'" choice this show really is. Also, a new, and very unusual reality show. “True Beauty” premieres with a premise of finding REAL beauty. Why this show can only last one season.

The Peoples’ Choice Awards was certainly different what with the writer’s strike. Still we have a review of this rather quiet and solemn awards show which further propelled one smart actress to more name recognition. Not to be confused with The Golden Globe awards because hey, no fashion? Why bother? Also, update on The Donald’s “Celebrity Apprentice” which hums along and continues to be, oddly, interesting. Finally, a book review, “Unfinished Murder” by James Neff. The book title is indicative of a True Crime that is considered by many to be a killing crime not quite complete. He’s a serial...

Hollywood is ready for a kudocast overhaul. "I don't think it's enough to just hand out awards. In order to survive, award shows need to be the variety specials of the new millennium," says Bob Bain, a producer of the Billboard and Teen Choice awards shows. The Jan. 16 Golden Globes slumped to their worst performance since moving to NBC in 1996. The People's Choice Awards posted its lowest ratings on record. All this bad news comes at the height of awards season, with Oscar noms to be unveiled Jan. 25 and the ceremony slated for Feb. 27. And the...

Michael Moore is lobbying for “Fahrenheit 911” to win the People’s Choice Award. advertisement The Bush bashing flick is ineligible for a Best Picture win from the Golden Globes and wasn’t submitted to the best documentary category of the Oscars — but it’s been nominated for Favorite Film of the Year by folks voting in the People’s Choice Awards — the first time a documentary has been nominated in that category. “Now, normally I wouldn’t make a very big deal out of something like this,” Moore writes on his Web site. “But then a group of top Republicans took out...

SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey (Reuters) -- Election Day is only two weeks away, but former Sen. Frank Lautenberg says it's too early for him to debate Republican Douglas Forrester in New Jersey's topsy-turvy Senate race.

The 78-year-old Democrat, who retired in 2000 after 18 years in the Senate, returned to politics only three weeks ago, when the state's Supreme Court ruled he could replace scandal-plagued Sen. Robert Torricelli on the November 5 ballot.
