Police are searching for the drivers of three vehicles who failed to stop after striking — one after another — a pedestrian in Pacoima late Friday night...The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

A pilot was hospitalized after their plane crashed in Pacoima on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The crash, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m., involved a “small single engine airplane,” which was damaged when it landed on the Metrolink Antelope Valley line train tracks near Whiteman Airport, the LAFD said in a pair of alerts. The Associated Press identified the plane as a Cessna 172. After the pilot was removed from the plane by the Los Angeles Police Department, the aircraft was struck by an oncoming train, the LAPD Operations-Valley Bureau said on Twitter.

Federal officials launched an investigation on Thursday after four 200-pound mailboxes were stolen in less than a week at multiple San Fernando Valley post offices, potentially leaving postal customers vulnerable to identity theft. The mailboxes stolen from offices in Pacoima, Glendale and Burbank were bolted into a concrete slab, U.S. Postal Inspector Renee Focht told the Glendale News-Press. No suspects have been named, but the thefts appeared to be a “recent trend,” Focht said. Investigators have not confirmed if all the incidences were connected.
