Police are searching for the drivers of three vehicles who failed to stop after striking — one after another — a pedestrian in Pacoima late Friday night...The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Well, in their defense, if the pedestrian was sacrificail bait to make them stop, the rest of the gang would pounce anyone who stopped.

Pacoima. HUGE Mexican population in Pacoima. Even way back in the day it was a no-go zone for los gringos. Back in the 1960s, in our many haunts throughout the basin and the valley, we avoided Pacoima.

I just jaywalked a few minutes ago. And right after Mass. As I got to the other side of the crosswalk a smiling man with a gray beard waiting there said to me, “Taking your life in your hands.”

When I was young, my father told me it takes two things to be a man: Honor and courage. No matter what other traits or qualities you may have, without those two, you are not a man. I’ve tried to live by that standard ever since.

I have a friend in Denver who often has to drive home in the wee hours from various locations due to work. He’s suddenly experienced 3 accidents in the 4 years after none for 20. All 2 were illegal Hispanics, had no insurance, two were hit and runs. One hit and run wasn’t caught so probably no insurance there as well, ethnicity not known.

It didn’t used to be: It used to be paradise.
Likely culprits: people who don’t have driver’s license or has one and is suspended.
I wouldn’t take that bet.

Is “Hispanic” a language? (no) Or even Filipino? (no) and probably others. It’s an odd list.
I recall when they gave illegal aliens drivers licenses in CA. I unfortunately have the bad luck of having to go to the DMV during that period in LA County and it looked like I’d walked into a bull fight in Mexico City or a giant Mexican wedding...It was just unreal.
I knew right then and there is was long past time to get out!
