Reader Joshua Jones, who lived through the Virginia Tech shooting rampage and attended the campus memorial where President Bush spoke, e-mails his response to the whooping and hollering during President Obama’s memorial tribute to the Tucson massacre victims at the University of Arizona tonight: Mrs. Malkin, My background: I was in the audience in Cassel Coliseum on April 17, 2007. I heard President Bush speak after a crazy b@st@rd (Seung-Hui Cho) shot up my college. In a few days I would bury a man whom I had last seen when he came up to me the week earlier to congratulate...

Is it a memorial or an Obama rally? Souvenir t-shirts emblazoned with the logo for the 'Together We Thrive' gathering at the University of Arizona were placed on chairs at the arena ahead of the memorial. It's odd for a memorial to a mass murder to have a logo, but it's crass to hand out souvenir t-shirts.Restricted Arizona Republic photo at link.H/t CedarDave

While the content of President Obama’s speech was entirely appropriate, one has to wonder about the tone of the event. The fact that his speech was interrupted several times by cheers and applause lent what was supposed to be a memorial service the air of a campaign rally. While it was a fine speech, I can’t help but question the way his audience thought it was appropriate to behave in this manner or why the president didn’t ask them to calm down and stop the demonstrations. If you tuned in without knowing the purpose of the gathering, you’d be hard...

BERLIN (AFP) - Barack Obama Thursday told a staggering crowd of 200,000 people in Berlin that Americans and Europeans must tear down walls between estranged allies, races and faiths, in a soaring challenge to a new political generation. ... humanity must build "a world that stands as one," before the biggest crowd of his campaign. "The greatest danger of all is to allow new walls to divide us from one another," said Obama, who has scorched through US politics at lightning speed to challenge Republican John McCain for the White House in November's election. --snip-- The crowd was put at...
