WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will press ahead Friday with tough requirements for new coal-fired power plants, moving to impose for the first time strict limits on the pollution blamed for global warming. The proposal would help reshape where Americans get electricity, away from a coal-dependent past into a future fired by cleaner sources of energy. It's also a key step in President Barack Obama's global warming plans, because it would help end what he called "the limitless dumping of carbon pollution" from power plants. Although the proposed rule won't immediatedly affect plants already operating, it eventually would force...

Remember back in 2008 when Barak Obama said this? “If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them. Under my plan, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” Well, well. It took almost five years and his re-election, but now it looks as though Obama’s prophecy is coming true. Circumventing Congress and ignoring the will of the American people, Obama is forging ahead with his promises to thwart “climate change” through Executive Orders. Why, one would ask, would he do this in the midst of an anemic economic recovery that could go on...

EAST CARBON, Carbon County — A Utah coal company owned by a vocal critic of President Barack Obama has laid off 102 miners. The layoffs at the West Ridge Mine are effective immediately, according to UtahAmerican Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Murray Energy Corp. They were announced in a short statement made public Thursday, two days after Obama won re-election. The layoffs are necessary because of the president's "war on coal," the statement said. The slogan is one used frequently during the election by Murray Energy CEO Robert Murray, who was an ardent supporter of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney....

His full statement: "The one thing we fail to talk about is those costs that you don't see on the bottom line. That is coal makes us sick, oil makes us sick; it's global warming. It's ruining our country, it’s ruining our world. We’ve got to stop using fossil fuel.”

Steve Helber/Associated Press Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. speaks during a rally at the Woodbridge Community Center in Woodbridge, Va., yesterday. Republicans yesterday criticized Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joseph R. Biden Jr. over an overheard comment at odds with Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's campaign pledge to support the development of clean coal plants in the United States. In the remarks, circulated on YouTube, the Delaware senator seems to reject the idea of building new coal-fired plants domestically, while suggesting that clean-coal technology, a goal that both campaigns have promised billions of dollars to develop, should be used to...

Coal production in this country covers 27 states. The table in my post ranks the top ten by production - that's mining, Bambi. That's taking black diamonds out of the earth. That's carbon footprinting, son, in a very big way. I added the latest RCP polls and classified the EVs. It seems that Bambi's loose mouth has put upwards of 72 EVs at risk for him.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The coal industry fired back at Barrack Obama Monday by calling his alleged remarks about coal being squeezed out of the U.S. energy mix misguided and cynical. Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association, said in a written statement that Obama has been hiding his real agenda while "pandering" for vote in battleground states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania that also happen to be major coal producers. "Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short-sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote," Carey declared. Carey said...

West Virginians and Ohioans know that America's energy future lies underground - in our vast deposits of coal. Coal holds the promise of providing new gaseous and liquid fuels we need to achieve energy independence. Sen. John McCain, the Republican candidate for president, understands that. He wants to provide federal help for new coal gasification and liquefaction plants. He also wants to use more coal - burned without harming the environment - for other purposes. That is just one reason we believe residents of our states should vote for McCain for president. McCain's opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, claims that he,...

Coal, Mining Groups Blast Obama @ 12:53 pm by Chris Good National and state coal groups are blasting Barack Obama today over a recently publicized audio tape of Barack Obama talking coal with the San Franciso Chronicle in January. The National Mining Association, the West Virginia Coal Association, the Ohio Coal Association, and the Kentucky Coal Association have all criticized the Democratic candidate over a controversial remark about coal power plants, made in a January interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, in which Obama suggests building coal power plants would "bankrupt" energy corporations and investors. In the tape, Obama outlines...
