Yolanda Anderson had owned a property gem in Austin for decades before she had no other choice but to put it up for sale. She didn’t want to do it, but when she was unsuccessful in securing funding to do extensive renovations on the pink-and-white Victorian — a marvel among passersby — she had no other choice. When the house sold in March, she moved her family to Oak Park, where they rent a condominium. “We really put our all into it,” Anderson said. “We reached out to the mayor, to our alderman, and there’s just no help for situations...

Last week, the Senate confirmed 8 judges to district courts, however I noticed that one of the judges, Franklin U. Valderrama on the Northern Illinois Court was confirmed by a 68-26 vote with the 26 NAYS as all Republicans, and every democrat voting YAY including Hirono and Gillibrand who almost always vote against Trumps judges--even the more "moderate" picks of his. Does anyone have any insight into this Franklin U. Valderrama guy and why so many Republicans would vote against him? The last time I am aware of so many R's going against a Trump nominee was Judge Mark Bennett...

"Shut up, I don't want to hear what you have to say." That sums up today's Democratic Party in a nutshell. There's nothing quite like a 2 way discussion where 1 person just needs to shut up......that's how you solve disagreements. This mental illness is spreading like a virus across this nation. I don't think it's merely the dumbing down of the population.

A Depression-era mural depicting white children playing outside in the winter was removed from Percy Julian Middle School in Oak Park because school officials said it failed to represent the school’s diversity. While some said the mural was upsetting to students of color who felt it excluded them from the school, a local historian likened the removal to a “modern-day book burning.” Cynthia Brito Millan, a coordinator for the middle school’s Social Justice Club, said the push to remove the mural began in February at a district school board meeting. Students expressed frustration about an atmosphere of exclusion for students...

The Oak Park Unified School District voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a program that will replace the current valedictorian and salutatorian recognition during graduation. Under Oak Park High School's valedictorian and salutatorian system, only students who have taken the most rigorous classes in all subject areas were eligible for the top recognition. However, the school's new Honors at Graduation Program will use unweighted GPA to determine if a student qualifies for Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Cum Laude. To receive the Summa Cum Laude recognition, a student must have a 3.90 or higher GPA on a 4.0...
