The Oak Park Unified School District voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a program that will replace the current valedictorian and salutatorian recognition during graduation.

Under Oak Park High School's valedictorian and salutatorian system, only students who have taken the most rigorous classes in all subject areas were eligible for the top recognition.

However, the school's new Honors at Graduation Program will use unweighted GPA to determine if a student qualifies for Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Cum Laude.

To receive the Summa Cum Laude recognition, a student must have a 3.90 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale. A student will receive the title of Magna Cum Laude with a 3.70 to 3.89 GPA and Cum Laude with a 3.50 to 3.69 GPA.

Students who have received high grade, but not necessarily had the opportunity to take honors or Advanced Placement course can now receive cum laude recognition under the Honors at Graduation Program.

The board initially shot down the new program during the summer, with some members concerned that the new system would not provide the recognition to the school's very top students.

At Tuesday night's meeting, the board approved an amended version of the proposal. Students who have excelled in honors and AP classes will receive added distinction to their cum laude title: highest honors, high honors, honors or with distinction.

"The faculty at Oak Park High School no longer supports the valedictorian/salutatorian recognition," counselor Randy McLelland told the board. "The faculty believes a more inclusive program that would honor more students should be adopted."

Oak Park regularly plays Oaks Christian School in football. Oaks Christian dominates their league and stomps Oak Park regularly. Oak Park will now demand that half the points Oaks Christian racks up in their league game be awarded to Oak Park. Just to make it fair.

Idiot liberals.

I still would not have qualified for a single award. Better lower the standards some more.

Political Correctness is at the root of most of the ills confronting our country, “Affordable housing” and “ affirmative action” are two of the greatest causes of the current economic crisis. Political Correctness has taken away the voice of dissent and the moral compass of our society. Americans are afraid to protest because the prospect of appearing “racist” is terrifying!

Today’s high school AP classes = yesteryear’s required HS classes...

Todays Community College AA degree = yesteryear’s HS diploma
