In the city of Naypyitaw on Saturday, Myanmar’s military junta celebrated Armed Forces Day, a holiday marking the beginning of Myanmar’s revolt against Japanese occupation during World War II. The weekend celebration came with a parade, a speech by coup leader Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, and a lavish dinner party. Meanwhile, across the country, soldiers and police shot largely defenseless anti-coup protesters and bystanders—including children—killing 100 people in the country’s deadliest day since the military’s Feb. 1 takeover. The day also marked a major escalation of violence in another conflict in Myanmar: the military’s ongoing fighting with local ethnic groups....

Desperate to win re-election, President Obama is taking inspiration from a tactic used by China’s Chairman Mao during so-called "Cultural Revolution."In order to spread his ideology, he creates his own army of brainwashed propagandists who are supposed to popularize talking points sent to them directly from the White House. Modern days hongweibings (Chinese for red guards) are called the Truth Team, and if everything goes as planned, the president will have an army of over two million Americans on his side. The Obama administration unveiled on Monday a campaign created to crush the GOP competition come November, a mission that...

Newt Gingrich has at least one name on his list of potential running mates: GOP rival Mitt Romney. "I think Mitt Romney is a very admirable person, and I'm not going to pick a fight with Mitt Romney," Gingrich said in an interview Wednesday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer. When asked if he would ever ask Romney to be his vice presidential nominee, Gingrich didn't mince words. "I think the consensus is that he'd certainly be on the list, whether he'd want to or not," Gingrich said. "He's a very competent person. This is a very serious man. I would certainly...

California's unemployment rate held steady at 12.5 percent in February, although the state lost 20,400 jobs, the Employment Development Department reported Friday. The state's loss followed a gain of 32,000 jobs in January. There are 586,400 fewer jobs in California last month than there were at the same time last year, a drop of 4.1 percent. The department said many of the losses last month occurred in the construction industry, which lost 21,500 jobs. Professional and business services grew more than any other sector, gaining 10,000 jobs. "Far too many Californians remain unemployed, and that is why I am so...

He returned here today with recent polls contradictory. One tracking poll conducted for Reuters and MSNBC shows Mr. Gore with a lead of 12 percentage points in the state. A Los Angeles Times poll taken from Oct. 27 through 29,...

With all the talk among the Democratic presidential hopefuls about change, they may wish to consider this as they wander Indiana: People here practically revolted a few years ago when their governor, Mitch Daniels, pushed to change to daylight saving time like most of the country.Change, it seems, may not carry quite the same political magic in this state as it has elsewhere. “We hold onto a lot of traditional values,” said Brian L. Thomas, 39, as he bought a cup of coffee along the courthouse square here on Wednesday. “Saying you’re ready to change is probably not the best...

PRIME Minister John Howard has received two standing ovations after telling Liberal Party faithful in Sydney that it's not time for a change in government. Mr Howard used his address to a Liberal Party federal council breakfast this morning to spell out the difference between the coalition and Labor on social, foreign and economic policy. With polls showing Labor heading for a landslide win over the 11-year-old government later this year, Mr Howard said Labor's main proposition was that it was time for a change. "Now let me say in reply to that that it is never time for a...

Look at the troposphere data from NASA's graph's of temperature over time, and see if you can confirm what I read from the numbers: The "0.0" reference point used for global warming claims is the early-mid 70's. Current temperatures are higher by about .8 degree C, but have been oscilating steadily without increasing or decreasing since that single peak of 1998-1999. Since 2000, there has been NO detectable global warming. None. Zero. A lot of hype, but nearly 1/10 century has gone by and temperatures have not changed. IF global warming (more specifically, man-caused global warming) does exist, or if...

Dec. 22, 2004 18:04 | Updated Dec. 22, 2004 18:38 FM Shalom: PA needs to back words with actions By JPOST.COM STAFF In an interview with Army Radio Wednesday evening, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said that despite positive rhetoric, the Palestinian Authority has as of yet done nothing to reduce terrorism. Although the late Yasser Arafat was replaced with an apparently more moderate leadership which has claimed willingness to return to the negotiating table, Shalom said that they are sending a positive message but will ultimately be tested by their actions, not by their words. "The attempts to harm us...
