Free Republic

Pew Research’s latest News Interest Index survey shows that a majority of Republicans would like to see more media coverage of the Nirth Certifikit theory.

Today we get a ludicrous effort by head Nirther Orly Taitz to foist off an obviously fake “Kenyan birth certificate” with Barack Obama’s name on it...

RNC chairman Michael Steele risks the wrath of the Nirth Certifikit horde.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you your elected Republican officials. Only one, Trent Franks (R-Arizona), issues an unequivocal denunciation of the Birth Certificate loons. Most of the others avoid the question, and one or two seem to be Nirthers themselves.

Ann Coulter brushes off the nirth certifikit kooks as just a few cranks, nothing to worry about, pay no attention, it’s the media trying to make conservatives look bad again... And over at Free Republic, hundreds of commenters are now convinced that Ann Coulter is a RINO and a traitor...

One of the craziest Nirthers, Andrea Shea King (a writer for World Net Daily), is now openly promoting violent revolution, publishing a letter from a deranged listener to her Internet radio show:... ...it seems growingly clear we will be unable to resolve this constitutional crisis in a peaceful matter. Like your one guest stated there will be blood on the streets. It was already predestined...

The insane conspiracy theory called the “Birther movement” is gaining support among Republican politicians. Now there’s actually a bill sponsored by Republicans that panders to these nuts. I hate it when I agree with Chris Matthews, but he’s right on this issue — this madness is embarrassing, self-destructive, and above all mind-bogglingly schtoopid. And it’s spreading.

Here’s Mike Castle, a Republican congressman from Delaware, trying to deal with the birther nonsense at a town hall meeting back on June 30. It really gets a little spooky when the woman hijacks the meeting with an impromptu demand for the Pledge of Allegiance. It’s hard to imagine a more vivid example of how easily false patriotism can trump reason and common sense. Apparently, CNN’s Lou Dobbs — always on the lookout these days for a fringe issue to ride — is also jumping on the bandwagon.

What radio and TV talk show hosts are pushing the Obama Birth Certificate issue? I'm not aware of any.

Maj. Stefan F. Cook, who is refusing to be deployed because of his belief in conspiracy theories about President Barack Obama’s citizenship, is a member of, and frequent poster at, the conservative Website FreeRepublic. Cook, who posts under the name “roaddog727,” revealed his identity in a post about the veteran networking site Together We Served. . He’s been a member of the site for nearly six years; on his profile page he calls himself a “staunch Republican and defender of the faith” and lists his favorite authors as “Robert A. Heinlein, Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Tom Clancey...

Back on June 27, 2008, PolitiFact published a story we hoped would put the whole Obama birth certificate controversy to rest. It ran under the now-laughable headline, "Obama's birth certificate: Final chapter." Oh, how naive we were. More than a year later, the debate continues to rage on the Internet among the "Birthers" movement, people who doubt that President Barack Obama is a natural-born U.S. citizen and is therefore ineligible to serve as president. Or at least, they say, Obama has yet to sufficiently prove things one way or the other. Today, we examine two claims: • WorldNetDaily's owners took...

Finally, the burgeoning Nirther movement is starting to attract some serious celebrity star power, as the great one, Pat Boone, leverages his considerable gravitas to demand {...} : Mr. Obama, Show Us Your Birth Certificate.
