Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich defended former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain on Monday, saying Americans might be more interested in finding a “solutions-oriented leader” than obsessing over another political scandal. *snip* “And I just think there’s this huge gap between the gossip that fascinates political reporters, and the average person’s concern about the price of housing, the availability of jobs, solving the budget deficit without crushing the middle class, a lot of things that are, frankly, at a substance level are dramatically more important for most Americans.”

He's come up from 4th or 5th on my list to probably #1 at the moment. Obviously I can't stand Romney. I wasn't for Cain even before the scandals because I simply do not think the 999 Plan is a good idea. I'd rather not give the government yet another form of taxation to impose on us. I'd much prefer a flat-tax, which Newt is a proponent of. Perry is obviously scum. Palin is out, which sucks. Paul, some days I love him, some days I think he's really crazy. Bottom line is this, Newt has great ideas on taxes...

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has jumped into second place in Iowa, ahead of Mitt Romney, according to a poll released Monday. An automated poll conducted by We Ask America, found that 18 percent of likely caucus goers would vote for Gingrich if the caucuses were held today. Cain is still in first place with 22 percent, despite weathering a week of sexual harassment allegations. Gingrich edges out Mitt Romney, who is in third at 15 percent. Gingrich has witnessed large gains since his numbers dropped and his staff deserted over the summer.

'Three hours each... with a time-keeper... and no moderator.' Newt Gingrich spoke Friday at the Iowa GOP's 'Reagan Dinner'... ______________________________________________________________________ "On the first day of a Gingrich Administration, I would issue a series of Exectutive Orders... the very first of which would abolish all the White House czars' "I would fire (Bernanke) tomorrow... and the Fed should be audited" "What we're faced with is the results of a radical ideology, and an inexperienced, incompetent president..." "I will outline a 21st-Century 'Contract with America'... and it's going to be far bolder, far deeper, and far more profound than we did in 1994......

Perry and Gingrich inch their way back to form new second tier Aaron Blake November 4, 2011 Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich have recovered some of the ground that they lost and are back in double digits in the GOP presidential race, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. The two men now make up, along with Rep. Ron Paul (Texas), a pretty distinct new second tier in a race that hasn’t really had defined tiers until now — apart from the top tier, of course. The two men have now positioned themselves as potential beneficiaries if Herman Cain ’s problems...

Mitt Romney wins the award for the Republican presidential candidate with the most real estate. In 2009, he had four mansions. His post-and-beam-log lodge (pictured here) was listed that year for $5.35 million (then removed), but real-estate website Zillow.com estimates the value around $2.6 million. That year, he also sold his Boston-area 1930 house for $3.5 million. Rounding out the collection are a $12 million beachfront compound in La Jolla, Calif., and a lake house in Wolfeboro, N.H.

THE WOODLANDS, Tex. – Finally, they had the debate stage to themselves: The philosopher-politician vs. the businessman-preacher. And for 90 minutes on Saturday night, there were no rehearsed attacks. Gone were the shiny podiums and 30-second rebuttals. In were the armchairs and three-minute monologues.

My father, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, has been in politics as long as I can remember. And as long as I can remember, media coverage about him has contained misstatements of facts. The vast majority are simple mistakes that are easily corrected, understood and rewoven into an ongoing storyline. But one of them seems to have taken on a life of its own, and simple corrections have not sufficed to set the record straight. Why does this happen? I can't be sure, but I suspect that the narrative created by these untruths proves to be so much...

Back in the 1990s, [Marianne Gingrich] told a reporter she could end her husband's career with a single interview. She held her tongue all through the affair and the divorce and even through the annulment Gingrich requested from the Catholic Church two years later, trying to erase their shared past. Now she sits quietly for a moment, ignoring her eggs, trying to decide how far she wants to go.

In a February 2008, Herman Cain used his syndicated column to endorse a candidate in the Republican primary. His choice? Mitt Romney. The former Massachusetts governor struck Cain as best equipped to "focus on the right problems" and make the "tough decisions" to solve them: "Romney has done that as a chief executive officer in business, as a governor and as head of the U.S. Olympics," Cain wrote, adding the noteworthy judgment that "he has done so while balancing political consequences, but not compromising fundamental principles of the founding of this country or free-market economics." Romneycare apparently wasn't seen as...

Having watched several of the debates, I am becoming convinced that Newt might be the only one that can beat Obama. He will destroy Obama in the Presidential debates. Can he overcome the destruction that Big Media rained down on him in the 90's?

Newt Gingrich predicts the race for the GOP nomination will come down to two weary candidates: "This will end up being Mitt and Newt." Gingrich, the former Georgia congressman and speaker of the U.S. House, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that his campaign is now where it needs to be and that by December he'll have the resources to compete head to head with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. "And Romney is the real competitor," Gingrich said in his Buckhead campaign headquarters, where he rallied two dozen volunteers before heading to Duluth for a town hall meeting sponsored by...

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--Don’t tell Newt Gingrich, but he’s not running against a general-election campaign against President Obama just yet. The former House speaker campaigns for president with the air of someone with a real shot at the Republican nomination, steadfastly declining to take shots at his GOP rivals on the stump, lobbing criticism at the White House, and describing for audiences what his first presidential press conference would be like.....

So far in this cycle Gingrich is playing the role that McCain played in the 08 cycle. Both had their difficulties toward the end of the summer with very little campaign cash on hand and were written off before making a charge based on merit and respect(although maybe not love) within the party and the media.

If you are as sick of the sound bite debate format as I am, there is cause to cheer today. C-SPAN has announced that it will televise Saturday night's debate between Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain in Texas. We shall finally have a shot at the longed-for Lincoln-Douglas style extended discussion.

So, dear readers, Newt Gingrich has finally announced formally that he’s running for president. Newt built his political career from my home state, Georgia. I even reside in the district Newt represented during his final stint in D.C. Prominent Georgia politicians have already lined up behind him. Newly elected Governor Nathan Deal has signed on, along with former Governor Sonny Perdue and longtime-beloved Georgian Zell Miller. You can bet your bottom dollar that Newt is holding more political IOUs than three politicians could possibly use in one lifetime. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Newt’s parade of Georgia...

ATLANTA (AP) - Republican candidate Newt Gingrich is decrying media coverage of the sexual harassment claims against rival Herman Cain and says that Cain's tax plans deserve more attention. Gingrich has told WSB radio in Atlanta on Wednesday that he thinks it's "disgusting" that the news media has started what Gingrich described as a "witch hunt" against Cain. It was revealed this week that Cain's former employer, the National Restaurant Association, settled in the 1990s with two women who claimed that Cain had sexually harassed them. A third woman has told The Associated Press that she considered filing a sexual...

Georgia businessman Herman Cain, who continues to battle past allegations of sexual harassment, draws the most support nationally for the Republican nomination. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary voters shows Cain with 26% of the vote over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s 23%. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich draws 14% support, with no other GOP contender reaching double-digits. Thirteen percent (13%) of GOP voters are undecided at this time. As for the rest of the field, Texas Governor Rick Perry picks up eight percent (8%) support, Texas Congressman Ron Paul gets seven percent (7%), both...
