THE WOODLANDS, Tex. Finally, they had the debate stage to themselves: The philosopher-politician vs. the businessman-preacher.
And for 90 minutes on Saturday night, there were no rehearsed attacks. Gone were the shiny podiums and 30-second rebuttals. In were the armchairs and three-minute monologues.

They didn’t need teleprompters or personal attacks to make their points. It was a great debate between to very intelligent men. We both represent a willingness to talk about common sense without regard to whatever the national establishment thinks is acceptable, Gingrich said. We are by any reasonable standard the two most radical candidates in this because we both are willing to say common sense and in the city of Washington, common sense is such a radical idea.
Geez, a couple of the comments below the story—hose those guys down.
I didn’t see the debate—any comments from those who did?
This was a good idea for both of them. They said of Astaire and Rogers “She gave him sex appeal, while he gave her class.” In this case, Gingrich gives Cain weight or ‘gravitas’ (sorry) because he’s willing to have a one-on-one with the acknowledged brain of the field, while Cain humanizes Gingrich, who’s seen as an ogre by those fed by the MSM. Gingrich is smart, Cain is likable. Together...?
I can’t imagine the car wreck that would have resulted if this were a discussion between, say, Gingrich and Bachmann, or Cain and Paul.
More like a conversaiont than a debate. they agreed about 99% of the time. It ended with Newt saying how Cain has been his friend since the fought Hillarycare together, and Cain asking Newt if he was “somebody’s Vice President”, what would be the first thing he would want to be asked to do. Newt laughed so hard he turned beet red for about a minute, then finally said he would learn from Dick Cheney and make sure it wasn’t hunting.
Thanks for the report. I scanned the live thread and saw that Newt in the end said he ‘went too far’ with that last comment but didn’t know what it was. Ouch. Sounds like it went well, which means the MSM will probably drop it ASAP. Nothing there supports their ‘narrative’ of evil angry rightwing haters.
Well, I tried to watch it but the sound system was so horrible I couldn’t stand it. Also, the introductions were too long and boring. So unfortunately, I didn’t watch much of it. I think both men are great!
On Medicaid...Cain said he likes block grants to the states with a few fed guidelines and the states would have the power to deal with medicaid as in the Ryan Plan; Newt also approved block grants to states but wants Obamacare repealed first. Newt also said that medicare recipients that go to the ER for an aspirin should be treated in some triage area...lol lol...given the aspirin and the cost would be about 30 dollars or so verses the cost of the ER...he said medicaid recipients that keep going back to the ER for “aspirins” should be tracked:) Newt also said there IS MORE ABUSE AND FRAUD IN MEDICAL CARE THAN IN CREDIT CARDS. It was a good exchange and the two seemed to enjoy their sparing...but since their views were so similiar...it was easy to watch
methinks it will be a Cain/Gingerich ticket....
also the evil, angry left wing moderators were not there to stir the pot with stupid questions...but newt still has to be watched with a close eye...his words don’t always come out it his actions...talks conservative, acts rino many times...
I listened to the debate last night and was impressed with both of them. They had intelligent and common sense statements on the subjects. Hopefully C-Span will run this again.
Yeah, whenever I start liking Gingrich, I recall all of his squishiness, his handshake with Clinton, his talk about healthcare and global warming, etc. I don’t trust him, which is too bad, because he IS smart.
The crowning statement was at the end, when Herman Cain asked Newt Gingrich, “As my Vice President, what would be your most important duty?”, which drew the biggest laughter of the evening. Newt’s reply, “Well, unlike Dick Cheney, I wouldn’t go hunting.”
There’s talk behind the scenes, watched it on Cspan when it concluded they both stood, shook hands again hugged and stood side by side and waved at the crowd in a campaign style stance. nice
It's running right now, and again at 6:30 this evening. Worth watching in spite of the sound system.
I watched. It wasn’t so much a debate as an exchange of ideas and solutions. I thoroughly enjoyed watching, and learned a lot. I admire both men. Either one would make a great president/vice president.
This bears some serious thought and discussion...Cain/Gingrich Ticket?
Could be a good one, if Cain would use Newt for political advice, policy strategy, and the like; not the bumbling court jester that many VP’s have been.
Could be a winning ticket...and might force 0bama to dump Plugs Biden in favor of the Hildebeast, if she would deign grace his ticket.
Obama needs Plugs. Obama needs somebody dumber than himself to make him look smart!
Thanks for letting me know about C-Span.
It would certainly nullify the race and the experience issues.
Of all the candidates, Mitt and Perry are among the least attractive.

AWESOME TICKET. Cain would be the communicator - Newt would get his hands dirty in the legislation and get things through Congress.
The Dems would likely have to figure out a way to dump Obama...he simply wouldn’t have a prayer against that ticket.
