Homicide won't derail planned lawsuit, attorney says --The shooting death of a transgendered woman won't stop a planned lawsuit over her February beating at the hands of police, one of her attorneys said Monday. A man who said he was leery of crime in his Olive Branch neighborhood chased down and shot a carjacking suspect Monday after discovering a man pointing a shotgun at his 71-year-old mother's head. The suspect, David Andre Bates, 18, of 6946 Bordeaux in Memphis, was charged with armed carjacking. Bond was set at $150,000.
