The Minneapolis Police Federation no longer supports former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, and will not contest his firing.
However, his legal defense for the criminal case will still be covered by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, because MPD is a member in good standing.
"Any critical incident, they are covered by the legal defense fund. And any criminal charge that they can potentially be charged with, we provide representation," said Brian Peters, executive director of the MPPOA.
The three other officers fired along with Chauvin will also have their legal fees covered.
But their criminal cases are separate from their labor cases. And when it comes to their firings, the union so far indicates it will support the other three officers for now. If they continue to, the case will likely go before an arbitrator.

I doubt a jury will convict any of the officers but they will need to move to another planet to be safe.
and if he isn’t convicted the crazies will riot and burn things again.
They will riot and loot anyway. It’s what they do.
“The three other officers fired along with Chauvin will also have their legal fees covered.”
They have payed for it over the years.......Certainly entitled.
It has been weeks now and the Nation still has not been told and shown, in detail, why it required the efforts of 4 Police officers to subdue Mr. Floyd. Mr. Floyd did not get choked to death. He died from a heart attack while experiencing an Excited Delirium episode because he had ingested a powerful stimulant and a powerful depressant , Methamphetamine and Fentanyl, the same time. The officers are being over charged and will be acquitted when the truth is finally relieved in the trial.
Some people have to pay for legal counsel, either out of pocket or through their union dues.
Other people get free legal counsel.
Same thing with medical care.
Ditto food, housing, college, you name it.
And, the moochers want reparations. They’re not against slavery. They want the government to get them some slaves.
3 and 4 days on the job?
I was referring to the group collectively.
My suspicion is that the 4 have contributed substantially via Union dues.
But, I suspect you knew that but could not let that get in the way of being a smart a$$.
I’m not going to stand up for Chauvin, he acted like the worst person ever.
How could 2 who are new on job have contributed substantially. Asking a question makes me a smart ass? Quality of posters has deteriorated.
Worst person ever? Hmmm.
Worse that John Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo? Worse than that Williams dude who murdered all those black kids in Atlanta?
Worse than Timothy McVeigh? Worse that Rocketman
And we have to even touched on the Cambodian Killing Fields and other dictators.
2 of those 3 other officers are rookies-—just started on the job.
They do NOT have ‘years on the job paying in’.
Traces of heroin were also found in his system.
My suspicion is that the 4 have contributed substantially via Union dues.””
2 of the 4 are total rookies. Bet they haven’t paid more than 6 months of union dues-—IF THAT.
“Quality of posters has deteriorated.”
Precisely my feelings.
Exactly.
Oh geez. Are you a moron?
Why didn’t you include Hitler in your rant? He’s available.
The mob doesn’t want to allow them to have any defense, or even a trial, for that matter. They want to drag them out and hang them now. The law and the Constitution are just obstacles to achieving their goals. Welcome to Mao’s revolution.
The new hire cop who only worked 3 or 4 days didn’t.
