On World Affairs. By FDGAR ANSEL MOWRE — Israel's Retaliation Of Attacks Justfied. The United Nations' categorical condemnation of Israel's reprisal raid on neighboring Jordan indicates a very peculiar sense of justice in those members of the Security Council who voted it. The Security Council revealed itself as hypocritical, masking the nationalistic or cowardly policies of its members behind a cloud of moral bombast. Strong words? Consider the facts of the situation, which many readers may have forgotten. Israel was started by the Balfour Declaration of a "Jewish Homeland in Palestine" of 1917 — which Pres. Wilson wholeheartedly supported. As...

Not only did Iowa voters decide to send another Republican from Iowa to the U.S. Senate to join Chuck Grassley there, voters elected Republicans in three out of the four congressional races in Iowa. Congressman Steve King, a Republican from Kiron easily won his bid for a seventh term. (SNIP) In the northwest Iowa counties, the Ernst to Braley ratios were 76/20 in O’Brien County, 87/11 in Sioux County, 78/18 in Osceola County, and 84/14 in Lyon County.
  • IA-04: Steve King/Jim Mowrer debate liveblog and discussion thread

In a few minutes, six-term Republican incumbent Steve King will debate his Democratic challenger Jim Mowrer in Storm Lake. Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press" is hosting the debate, and C-SPAN is also televising. (SNIP) He is third in offering amendments on House floor after Jeff Flake and Sheila Jackson-Lee. You can't always pass a bill but he has highest percentage of success in getting amendments passed. Mowrer says Senator Flake [of Arizona] has asked King to stop claiming that, because it's not true. They show the King tv ad I transcribed above. Mowrer asked to comment. He says it's false....
  • King, Mowrer Spar Debate in Contentious Debate

    10/24/2014 6:33:11 PM PDT · by ObamahatesPACoal
After watching the only debate between Fourth District Congressman Steve King and Democrat challenger Jim Mowrer, it is easy to see why King opted out of appearing with Mowrer at other venues, and even considered cancelling this one. King’s little-known opponent consistently attacked King during the hour-long event. (SNIP) He correctly pointed out that Mowrer’s son would be covered under Hawk-I, an insurance plan for children established by the Iowa Legislature when Steve King was a state senator. “By all measures that I can uncover, Mr. Mowrer’s children would be qualified for Hawk-I, so that exists, along with the high...

Newspapers and other media organizations will pay for statewide polls for presidential and gubernatorial elections, but their budgets don’t allow for congressional polling. Public polling data for congressional campaigns is hard to come by, which is why the Loras College Poll of Iowa’s four congressional districts is unique. The latest Loras poll gives us a peek into the four congressional races in Iowa, two of which are competitive open seats. The poll shows that Iowa’s two incumbent Congressmen, Democrat Dave Loebsack and Republican Steve King, currently hold sizable leads over their challengers. (SNIP) Congressman Steve King is leading his Democrat...
  • King: Mowrer’s challenge not ‘as intense’ as Vilsack’s

Ames Tribune ^ | Gavin Aronsen
Iowa Congressman Steve King hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday in north Ames’ Somerset Clubhouse, speaking at length about such issues as immigration and foreign policy but mentioning his 4th Congressional District challenger, 28-year-old Boone Democrat Jim Mowrer, only in passing. (SNIP) He explained his efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an Obama administration directive granting temporary work permits to immigrants who entered the country unlawfully as children; and to amend the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, a law that has made it more difficult to deport children crossing the Mexico border...

It has taken more than 40 years since Edward R. Murrow's retirement for CBS to wreck the brand name Morrow created for the network's news department. The current Rathergate fiasco is a sad commentary on the difficulty corporate cultures have remembering the values that made them great. And no one would have understood the gravity of this "mistake," as Dan Rather finally called it, more than Ed Murrow.... Murrow foresaw the end as well as the beginning. In a speech before the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 1958 Murrow warned: " . . . unless we get up off our...
