A woman is suing her seven-year-old daughter's elementary school after she was allegedly forced to make a public apology for writing 'any life' on a Black Lives Matter drawing. Chelsea Boyle's first-grade daughter, who has ADHD, was allegedly told by her principal at Viejo Elementary School in Mission Viejo, California, that she 'can't draw pictures anymore' and 'can't write those words' after being disciplined for creating the 'any lives' matter drawing. The picture showed the words 'Black Lives Matter' with four round shapes in various different tones of brown, beige and yellow, which was intended to 'represent her friends' who...

Students at a southern California community college say campus leaders canceled a Sept. 11 memorial and a professor tore down "Never Forget" remembrance posters. A conservative group of students at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo released video footage Thursday of a history professor ripping down posters with images showing various terrorists acts and the words “Never Forget," according to the College Fix. The video shows history professor Margot Lovett telling the students -- who are members of the Young Americans for Freedom group -- that they did not have permission to hang the posters. Lovett, who is chairwoman of the...

Mission Viejo has joined the national immigration debate, adopting an ordinance requiring its employees and contractors to participate in a federal program meant to weed out unauthorized workers. "We will be setting an example for all those in the community," said Mayor Pro Tem John Paul Ledesma, who put the ordinance on the agenda. The council unanimously approved the measure on its first reading on Monday. If it's approved on a second reading, it will go into effect July 1. The city's decision would require participation in the Department of Homeland Security's Basic Pilot Program, which is free and Internet-based....

About 32,000 acres of oak-studded woodlands in South County, including land that is home to endangered species such as the gnatcatcher and the arroyo toad, will be set aside as a nature reserve, federal wildlife authorities announced Thursday. Environmental officials have worked for more than a dozen years to preserve the foothills east of Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, cities that have had high growth in recent years. The deal would allow several major construction projects to move forward on land adjacent to the reserve, including a controversial plan to build as many as 14,000 homes on...

A brush fire is working its way through south Orange County just north of Mission Viejo (about a mile from me). I'm watching the flames crest the ridge and are now working down towards homes. It's located east of Antonio and north of Oso Parkway. The toll road north of Oso is closed.
