Ann Coulter was in Hollywood, California this morning at Paramount Studios to appear on the Dr. Phil show. Southern California's RonDog coordinated a group effort to support Ann. About thirty members of Free Republic showed up at the studios around 7:30 am. Jim Robinson, his wife Sheila, and thier son Chris came down from Fresno to join in. Also attending were a number of the Youngs Republicans from UCLA. Ann didn't have to want for more support. Thanks to RonDog, we had her back. I would say we made up between 25 and 33% of the audience. Ann's contributions to...

David Frum on Scott McClellan's new book: George Bush got the team he deserved Posted: May 30, 2008, 3:47 PM by Marni Soupcoff David Frum Except maybe for MSNBC’s wild-eyed commentator Keith Olbermann, nobody in politics or media seems to have a good word to say for Scott McClellan, the former George W. Bush press secretary turned ferocious Bush critic. The right complains of McClellan's disloyalty. The left complains that McClellan’s change of heart arrived too late. The old Washington hands shake their heads at a press secretary writing a book at all: FDR’s and Eisenhower’s men took their secrets...

SCOTT McClellan has learned the profound wisdom of the old Groucho Marx line about not wanting to belong to any club that would have him. The former press secretary has written a scathing memoir about his time in the Bush administration - but nothing he says in his book, dully titled (appropriately enough) "What Happened," is as damning as the fact that he spent nearly three years as White House press secretary. Likable, but maladroit and plodding, he was the perfect spokesman for the administration of Harriet Miers, Michael Brown and Al Gonzales. For anyone who doubted that President Bush...

CBS News anchor Katie Couric interviewed former White House press secretary Scott McClellan about his explosive new book - and the criticism it is stirring. What follows is a partial transcript of the interview. Couric: Do you support John McCain? McClellan: I haven't made a decision yet. I have a lot of respect and admiration for Sen. McCain. He is certainly someone who has governed from the center, and that's where I come from; I am pretty much a centrist who believes in working together to solve problems and get things done and putting the country ahead of partisan politics....

Edmonton Sun Wed, December 7, 2005 EDITORIAL: Anne on the attack There's a part of the Liberal mantra that goes, when in doubt invoke the spectre of the National Rifle Association - or some other American institution that's poised to impose its unsavoury doctrines on caring and sharing Canadians. And if they can be linked to Stephen Harper and his federal Conservatives, then all the better. That was clearly the intent of an attack by Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan this week, claiming that NRA operatives were helping Conservative candidates. McLellan used the anniversary of the Ecole Polytechnique murders as...

Another day, another squabble as Perry-Strayhorn fight continues. By Ken Herman and Michelle M. Martinez AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Thursday, April 22, 2004 Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, dabbling in subject matter a tad sexier than the usual daily number crunching, said Wednesday that the state should shut down all topless bars by prohibiting them from selling alcoholic drinks. The proposal is the latest in what have become daily Strayhorn attacks on Gov. Rick Perry's proposed school finance package. The Perry plan, aimed at drumming up more money for public schools while reducing property taxes, includes a proposed $5 admission surcharge at...

Now that the conservative movement has succeeded in recalling Grayout Davis from office. I think it's time that we pressure the Bush Administration to remove Scott McClellan, who succeeded Ari Fleischer as press secretary. I don't know about his politics but McClellan is a real drag on the president because he doesn't know how to handle the media very well and is a rather poor speaker. He's also been totally ineffective at keeping down media stories that Fleischer was able to manage. In fact, during the entire time that Ari was there, Bush had no major media explosions. But since...

CTV.ca News Staff The World Health Organization is lifting a travel advisory to Toronto, effective Wednesday. The advisory was imposed last week over the SARS outbreak that has killed 21 in the city in the last two months. The change in the advisory comes just hours after a delegation, led by Ontario's Health Minister Tony Clement, met with WHO Director General Gro Harlem Brundtland. Clement and his team were in Geneva to try and convince the WHO to lift the three-week advisory, slapped on Toronto last Wednesday. Following the hour-long meeting, Clement said he was hopeful there would be a...

<p>"You think we can't chew gum and walk at the same time? You're wrong."</p>
<p>So said a friend of mine who votes the straight Democratic ticket. Actually, a good number of people said essentially the same thing in response to Friday's column in which I wrote it would be a mistake if the Dems wasted their energy investigating President George W. Bush and Harken Energy. Or Vice President Dick Cheney and Halliburton. Instead, try to fix the mess. That was my suggestion.</p>
