Hey, Dems, forget about payback; take high road on Bush (Another Liberal "Knows" How To Beat G.W.)

"You think we can't chew gum and walk at the same time? You're wrong."

So said a friend of mine who votes the straight Democratic ticket. Actually, a good number of people said essentially the same thing in response to Friday's column in which I wrote it would be a mistake if the Dems wasted their energy investigating President George W. Bush and Harken Energy. Or Vice President Dick Cheney and Halliburton. Instead, try to fix the mess. That was my suggestion.

How, where oh where do we begin to pick apart the rantings of this liberal clown? Let's begin at the beginning:

No congressional investigations into Bush and Harken Energy. What's your upside? You could embarrass Bush, but that's all. There will be no proof that he violated any laws. Instead, the evidence would suggest that Harken bought his company and gave him a lucrative consulting job because his dad was vice president.

Amazing to me this columnist already knows what the evidence would suggest. Incredible clairvoyance for someone who writes a newspaper column, isn't it? Even though he ignores the fact that this Harken crap has been raised in no fewer than THREE other political climates and has yielded NOTHING, McLellan somehow knows what the evidence will tell.

And while we're on his conclusion, let's investigate that, too: somehow Bush's family connections are supposed to be the key to his occupation. Never mind the fact of his Yale and Harvard degrees. Nice conclusion, Bill.

The evidence really suggests you're a hack with an agenda. On we move:

2. No congressional investigations into Cheney and Halliburton. Admittedly, this is a juicier target, but there is no reason to dirty your hands. You've got Judicial Watch doing your work for you....

"JUDICIAL WATCH"??? McLellan here is showing hypocrisy. Judicial Watch, the "gadfly" of Washington, as Brit Hume calls JW's Larry Klayman, is a pain to Bush, but he is ALSO known for his umpteen lawsuits against Clinton. Judicial Watch is a bonafide enemy of Clinton, and yet, here is what McLellan says about Clintons' enemies:

"You know the best thing Bill Clinton had going for him? His enemies. Many of us in the political middle thought Clinton was a shady character, but we thought his enemies were worse. They were petty and pious and absolutely unlikable."

So, the enemies of Clinton were unlikable and petty, but when these same exact characters attack Bush, they're to be lauded and appreciated by Democrats. What a clown. Next up?

3. Lose Terry McAuliffe. He is the wrong guy to be chairman of the Democratic National Committee right now. I know it's hard to find anybody who's really pure...
This is a typical way for the "journalist" McLellan to show he's "being fair" by slamming it to the Democrats. But notice how McAuliffe qualifies his tap on the wrist to the 'rats "it's hard to find anybody who's really pure..." McLellan gives the Democrats an out here: "We can't replace Terry, he's such a good man, and b'sides, he didn't make as much money as Dick Cheney did at Halliburton, so it kind of evens out..." On to another laugher:

4. Keep a close watch on John McCain. He's already laid claim to the popular side of the stock options issue...

Oh yes, absolutely, Bill. When I talk to my undecided and moderate friends about this corporate mess, they are constantly bringing up John McCain's stock options accounting solution as the PANACEA for so many of the recent Wall Street woes. My daughter Amy told me just the other day that nuclear war and stock options accounting are the two greatest threats to America's existence today.

Obviously this is another ploy intended as a SUCKUP to the LOSER of the Republican primaries.

Moving on:

5. Find Bill Bradley.

Oh my God. This is too rich. Bradley is from Missouri originally, so there's gotta be some "Favorite Son" sentiment here, but PLEASE, yes, come to think of it: BRING BILL BRADLEY ON! LET HIM AND AL GORE RUN TOGETHER IN 2004!! Bush might even take New Jersey in that election!

For Democrats, the high road still goes through the sewer.

Some of it's pretty good advice - even if the Dems are going to try to leverage this "scandal" to payback for the "persecution" of Ali Bubba and the forty thieves, they're going to have to do it with cleaner hands than those of Daschle, Gephardt, and of all people, McCauliffe.

Actually, I think all of it is pretty good advice - which is exactly why the Democrats are unlikely to heed it (and I, for one, hope they don't). The author's reasoning is not exactly logical, as RD pointed out, but the conclusions are sound.

Unfortunately for the Democrats, those currently leading their party are so blinded by partisan fanaticism that they will ignore, or attack as hostile, any advice that is even slightly out of line with their preconceptions.

Many of my Democratic friends disagreed. They see this as payback time. For eight years, the Republicans hounded Bill Clinton. Now the boot is on the other foot, and the Dems intend to do some stomping of their own.

This is where the RAT argument falls apart. We didn't "hound" Bill Clinton because he beat George HW Bush and we were pissed off. We hounded him because he turned the White House into a whorehouse, committed untold numbers of ethical and legal violations, and just generally soiled the Office of the President. The RATS, however, are attacking for no other reason than that Bush won. Their hatred is based on pure jealousy.

"Many of us in the political middle thought Clinton was a shady character, but we thought his enemies were worse. They were petty and pious and absolutely unlikable."

Dear God in Heaven, please help us! Bubba Rex merely a 'shady character.'? Sigh. The average sleepy Freeper can recite enough data off the top of his head to demonstrate unambiguously that BR was (1) A rapist; (2) Accomplice to homicide; (3) Serial perjurer; (4) Traitor to the republic; (5) Architect of graft, bribery, abuse of power.... I weary of the recital.

This McLellan writes a column!? Where is Ambrose Evans-Pritchard? Huh? People read this with a scintilla of credulity!? Yes, they really, really do.

Don't any of you even think of trying to tell me that Hillary Regina cannot become Empress or Vice-Empress (God help the Emperor in that case). Common Tator does the best job of making the Gore case, but I fear he might be wrong. (Should I pray he is right?) Please tell me I am wrong, wrong.

The distressing truth is that this writer's self-assignment to the 'political middle' is laughable. He is to the left of Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov (Lenin).

Blessings on Freepers Everywhere.

"sending Dick Daley's son down to Florida"

Hmmmm? I don't think this FACT is correct - It wasn't a SON, it was a NEPHEW.
