TUCSON, Ariz. — Four-term Progressive Caucus Co-Chairman Rep. Raul Grijalva (D) is locked in the fight of his political life against a 28-year-old rocket scientist. Raytheon physicist Ruth McClung does not have the most sophisticated campaign operation this election cycle — it’s being managed by her mother, Gini Crawford — but the Republican nonetheless finds herself running neck and neck with an established Democrat. McClung’s sudden rise has taken many — including Grijalva — by surprise. She entered the GOP primary race in May 2009, defeated four challengers in August and now finds herself on the verge of a stunning...

"I won't vote for him," said Veronica Silvas, 44, a respiratory therapist in Tucson and a Democrat who had long supported him. "Why would you want to boycott your own state?" Dave Paden, a contractor in Tucson, sees the congressman as part of the problem in Washington, though he couldn't identify precisely what Grijalva had done to frustrate him. "It seemed like in the beginning he was doing the right things, but like a lot of politicians eventually he got kind of stagnant."

Phoenix Dem: Grijalva Will Steal Election! For Immediate Release Saturday, October 23rd, 2010. This week, reports of widespread voter fraud began to surface in Arizona's 7th Congressional District, home to Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Raul Grijalva and his political machine. Extremist SEIU activists--hiding under the auspices of a recently created Arizona PAC--have been canvassing the district, attempting to put thousands of ineligible voters on the roles before election day. Now there's confirmation from the Assistant Leader of the Democratic Caucus in the Arizona House of Representatives. On a KPNX-12 TV roundtable, Krysten Sinema (D-LD 15) says, "I do think he (Grijalva)...

National Democrats have asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate whether Arizona Sen. John McCain violated campaign finance laws when his campaign paid to run ads for Republican House candidates in Arizona — charges the McCain campaign said are “baseless.” The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee filed a FEC complaint Tuesday against McCain and his campaign committee, Friends of John McCain, because of recent ads backing Ruth McClung, the GOP nominee in Arizona’s 7th District, and Jesse Kelly, who is running in the 8th District. The complaint also asks the FEC to investigate whether McClung, Kelly and their respective campaign committees...

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D.) serves a district, the Arizona 7th, that is almost 55 percent Hispanic. He probably wasn’t surprised to hear the crowd cheering in Spanish at Wednesday night’s congressional debate. But he almost certainly wasn’t expecting those cheers to be directed at his opponent. “¡Viva Ruth! ¡Viva Ruth! ¡Viva Ruth!” supporters of Republican nominee Ruth McClung chanted as the candidates took the stage in Tucson. “¡Ruth sí se puede!” they added: Yes, Ruth can! If she does, it will be one of the biggest upsets of this election cycle.

Even liberal Democrats from normally safe districts are embroiled in tough reelection races this cycle. Two recent polls show Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) — who hasn't faced a tough challenge in his eight years in the House — within the margin of error against an unknown Republican.

The results mean that Grijalva, who co-chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is in a similar position to his colleagues holding battleground districts in the state.Arizona Democratic Reps. Harry Mitchell, Ann Kirkpatrick and Gabrielle Giffords are also in tough reelection races — raising the possibility Republicans could end up with seven of the state’s...

On Sept. 27, I asked you to spread the word and support GOP upstart Ruth McClung in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District. The young, energetic conservative Republican with a physics degree and grass-roots momentum has been working non-stop on the campaign trail to defeat open-borders zealot Raul Grijalva

Confirming indications of a building Republican "wave" this fall, polls now show Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva in a dead-heat with his little-known challenger in Arizona's 7th District. Politico reports that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is now directing campaign cash to help Grijalva against insurgent GOP candidate Ruth McClung. A big part of Grijalva's problem is that earlier this year, the incumbent Democrat joined those calling for a boycott of Arizona after the state passed a tough law aimed at curbing illegal immigration. Grijalva may have expected that stance would endear him with voters in the 7th District -- where about...

Add Rep. Raul Grijalva to the growing list of Democratic worries this election season. Party operatives say there's increasing concern that the Arizona Democrat's reelection bid could turn into a "sleeper" race for Republicans after Grijalva — responding to enactment of a tough new immigration law — called for an economic boycott of his own state amid a housing crisis and record unemployment. Four Democratic sources from different parts of the country said that there is new attention to a race that was long considered in the bag. And a recent poll, obtained by POLITICO, found that Grijalva and...

Residents of Arizona's seventh congressional district -south/southwest of Phoenix- are currently plagued with a US congressman who's a few tacos short of a fiesta... if you catch my drift: Meet Rep. Raul Grijalva... a man whose keen domestic insights and principled leadership rival even Slow-Joe Biden's brilliant 2006 plans for surrender in Iraq: Arizona's 7th district US Congressman Grijalva has actually called for a SB 1070 protest-driven boycott of Arizona, his own state- including all businesses -and jobs- in his own district. I sure don't know who he expects to vote for any more of this... With such a self-destructive...

How would you like to be a voter in a district where your own congressman led an economic boycott against you and the rest of your state? If you had no choices at the ballot box, you might vote with your feet and move somewhere more hospitable. In Arizona’s 7th congressional district, represented by open-borders extremist Democrat Raul Grijalva — who spearheaded a punitive boycott against his own constituents over SB1070 — there is a choice. Her name is Ruth McClung. She’s a young conservative Republican who is urging voters to boycott Grijalva, not Arizona. Her background: McClung is a...
