That $53,000 for the Mac Pro on the high-end is a lot of money for a computer, but there will be buyers. There doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion about the lower, more practical, workstation price points -- which are common to Windows workstations too. Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR When considering the Mac Pro price, context is key. Context is what's lacking in nearly all of these conversations. If the Mac Pro is compared to build-your-own hardware or an iMac, it is indeed more expensive. But, compared to Windows workstation pricing, the jokes and arguments fall...

As part of its commitment to US economic growth, Apple today confirmed that its newly redesigned Mac Pro will be manufactured in Austin, Texas. This latest generation Mac Pro, which was unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June, will begin production soon at the same Austin facility where Mac Pro has been made since 2013. The new Mac Pro will include components designed, developed and manufactured by more than a dozen American companies for distribution to US customers. Manufacturers and suppliers across Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Vermont, including Intersil and ON Semiconductor,...

“Apple is a great company," Trump said during his news conference. "Look, I have to worry about our country. Don't forget, Apple makes the product in China." “I told Tim Cook, who's a friend of mine who I like a lot, make your product in the United States," Trump added. "Build those big beautiful plants that go on for miles. Build those plants in the United States. I'd like that even better. Apple makes its product in China. China is the biggest beneficiary of Apple ... because they build their product mostly in China.” Trump, who is notably an iPhone...

Apple is currently hard at work on a “completely rethought” Mac Pro, with a modular design that can accommodate high-end CPUs and big honking hot-running GPUs, and which should make it easier for Apple to update with new components on a regular basis. They’re also working on Apple-branded pro displays to go with them. These next-gen Mac Pros and pro displays “will not ship this year”. (I hope that means “next year”, but all Apple said was “not this year”.) In the meantime, Apple is today releasing meager speed-bump updates to the existing Mac Pros.

Apple plots new Mac Pro, eyes desktop innovation Summary: Mac Pro looked a bit like something Darth Vader would use to operate the Death Star and is an eighth the size of the previous version. By Larry Dignan for Between the Lines | June 10, 2013 -- 18:12 GMT (11:12 PDT) Apple said that it will keep the Mac Pro alive---even though it hasn't been updated forever. In a sneak peak, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said it rethought what a desktop should be. The Mac Pro, which caters to video editors and folks that need more horse power, was...

In terms of performance, it's good news—with a caveat. While the fully-buffered memory, the screaming-fast Xeon 5150s, and the 1333MHz FSB are all great, Apple's video card choice is most definitely not. It's like having a can of Schlitz with filet mignon, or having an oompah band play Oktoberfest at Carnegie Hall. It doesn't fit, and it detracts from the overall experience. The ATI Radeon X1900XT offered as a build-to-order option would have been a fantastic choice, but given Apple's desire for a $2,499 price tag and high margins, that was not an option. Still, one of the GeForce 7600s...
