Apple to build new, insanely powerful Mac Pro in Texas after securing tariff relief

As part of its commitment to US economic growth, Apple today confirmed that its newly redesigned Mac Pro will be manufactured in Austin, Texas. This latest generation Mac Pro, which was unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June, will begin production soon at the same Austin facility where Mac Pro has been made since 2013.

The new Mac Pro will include components designed, developed and manufactured by more than a dozen American companies for distribution to US customers. Manufacturers and suppliers across Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Vermont, including Intersil and ON Semiconductor, are providing advanced technology. The US manufacturing of Mac Pro is made possible following a federal product exclusion Apple is receiving for certain necessary components. The value of American-made components in the new Mac Pro is 2.5 times greater than in Apple’s previous generation Mac Pro.

Apple’s domestic investment supports 450,000 jobs at US suppliers. Apple’s domestic investment supports 450,000 jobs at US suppliers. “The Mac Pro is Apple’s most powerful computer ever and we’re proud to be building it in Austin. We thank the administration for their support enabling this opportunity,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, in a statement. “We believe deeply in the power of American innovation. That’s why every Apple product is designed and engineered in the U.S., and made up of parts from 36 states, supporting 450,000 jobs with US suppliers, and we’re going to continue growing here.”

Apple announced today that the new MacPro is being manufactured in Austin, Texas, in the same MacPro plant that has been manufacturing the 2013 MacPro for the last six years. The new MacPro will include components from many American supplies. Last year alone, Apple spent over $60 billion with over 9,000 American suppliers in 36 U.S. States. —PING!

Since Mac has long since stopped using the Motorola processor line in favor of Intel, how is a Mac more “insanely powerful” than the equivalent PC?

Good.

Bringing back manufacturing to the US is a good thing.

I hope many more companies will do it.

They thank “this” administration instead of the Trump administration. Why, because it’s on MacDailyNews’ site (Just guessing that the apple engaged aren’t fans of Trump)

securing tariff relief

What balderdash. The tariff incentivized Apple to make them here. The opposite of the titles inference.

Find and price out an “equivalent” PC to the new MacPro. Make sure it truly IS an equivalent professional grade workstation. You may find it very difficult to do.

Don’t forget the 32” professional grade reference monitor. . . Apple’s 32” 6K is $5,995.00.

Sony’s manufactured suggested retail price for their 31” 4K reference monitor is $42,000. . . You can probably find it discounted for ~$35,000 and used for $28,000.

Show me the needle moving towards Republicans on Austin city council and in judicial races for Travis county.

Will people be moving to Austin or will this strictly be existinglocal labor?
