about a third of all states ban discrimination based on age in places of public accommodation, and some of those statutes may well ban refusal to sell guns to 18-to-20-year-olds. ...Likewise, some cities and counties have similar ordinances (even if their states don't)

L.L. Bean's outdoor gear — including its signature Bean Boots prized by campers and hipsters alike — is no longer guaranteed for life. In a letter to customers Friday morning, the company said it has updated its return policy to give customers one year to return purchases, with a receipt. The previous lifetime guarantee, which enabled customers to return products years — or even decades — after purchase, has long been a selling point for the company.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A day after President-elect Donald Trump encouraged supporters to "Buy L.L. Bean," a U.S. ethics watchdog on Friday warned federal employees they must not endorse products or companies. The U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) said on its official Twitter account: "All executive branch employees must refrain from misuse of position, including endorsements." No mention of Trump was made in the tweet, and many rules for federal employees do not apply to the president. The ethics office has tweeted other reminders to employees this week, including one that federal gift restrictions remain in place during the upcoming...

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter again Thursday morning, this time to urge his followers to "Buy L.L.Bean," and support one of his campaign backers. "Thank you to Linda Bean of L.L.Bean for your great support and courage," he tweeted Thursday. "People will support you even more now. Buy L.L.Bean." The tweet came in response to public attention over Linda Bean's political support for Trump. Bean, a board member and co-owner of the family-owned outdoor retailer and the granddaughter of company founder Leon Leonwood Bean, says she gave money to a PAC supporting Trump. The Associated Press reported that...

Buycott L.L. Bean!http://www.llbean.com/ A leftist group that targeted Ivanka Trump’s fashion line in the fall is now targeting the L.L. Bean clothing and equipment company because one of its 50 co-owners dared to donate $60,000 to a pro-Donald Trump political action committee (PAC). The donor in question, according to the Daily Mail, is “Linda Bean, one of 50 co-owners and a member of the founding Bean family.” Her donation was sent to Making America Great Again LLC, according to the Associated Press, and came to light because the Federal Election Commission (FEC) complained the contribution was 12 times higher than...

Bean Board Member and Co-Owner Linda Bean on calls for a boycott of the company because of her support for President-elect Donald Trump and the state of the U.S. economy. Linda Bean, the granddaughter and co-owner of L.L. Bean, on Thursday said U.S. businesses are under attack and being bullied by anti-Trump groups. A group, Grabyourwallet.org, called for a boycott of L.L. Bean after Linda Bean, one of 50 family members that own the outdoor apparel maker, contributed $60,000 to a political action committee...

L.L. Bean likes to stay out of politics, but a donation by a member of the Bean family is putting the retailer on the defensive. The Maine-based company issued a statement late Sunday after being targeted for boycott for alleged ties to Republican President-elect Donald Trump. The founders of the hashtag #GrabYourWallet included Bean on the list after The Associated Press reported that L.L. Bean’s granddaughter, Linda Bean, contributed $60,000 to a political action committee supporting Trump. The donation exceeded the PAC’s contribution limit...

A old article, I know. But we can't cite AP, USA today, so this is the best I could do. If this is a problem for you. Move on. You probably noticed a lot of brown and tan rubber-bottomed foul weather shoes this season. Most likely, it's L.L. Bean's Bean Boot, which has undergone a popularity spike. But they're not trendy on purpose. In fact, the boot has been in production — largely unmodified apart from slight changes for new technology — for more than 100 years. Their popularity has waxed and waned during this time, but they've always endured....

Come close. They won't bite though some have been gnawed upon, chewed, and bitten themselves (mostly by labs and golden retrievers, if social media is the source). Weirdly, the weathered boots piled into a bin, located in a far-off corner of the factory, don't smell so bad either. It's hard not to want to touch them, to trace their wrinkles. Each boot carries its own landscape of dings and dust, faded in its own peculiar shade, with its own particular history.

A backlog of 60,000 boot orders could grow to 100,000 by month's end, and the company is in the process of hiring 100 workers and purchasing additional equipment to catch up with demand. "We just can't make enough of them," said Tom Armstrong, L.L. Bean's chief merchandising officer. The rubber-bottomed, leather-topped "duck boot" has seen sales grow from fewer than 100,000 a decade ago to about 450,000 this year. Next year, the number is expected to top 500,000.

Washington DC, Dec. 09, 2005 (CNA) - Intervening in the heated debate about the mention of Christmas on the public square, Concerned Women for America (CWA) presented a first Christmas list showing which businesses are honouring the Reason for the Season (the birth of Jesus), which ones are not, and which have mixed records. It first lists the corporation ‘Nice’ or friendly to the Original Christmas tradition. This year Macy's joins the NICE list because it has returned the explicit mention of Christmas and Merry Christmas to its stores and its ads. L.L. Bean, on the other hand, just barely...

Bob Dole pitched Viagra. Al Gore grew a goofy goatee and taught college. So what's Sen. John Kerry to do to shake off his loosing White House bid? Well, the folks at L.L. Bean, Timberland, or Woolrich would probably love to have him pitching their coats. That's because Kerry's campaign fashion trademark, his wheat-colored Timberland barn coat, has caused a spike in sales of the jackets. "It does seem to be getting a big lift," says Woolrich marketing director Tim Joseph. Barn coat sales typically drop off when winter arrives, but not this year. "We are somewhat inclined to attribute...
