iHeartMedia Liberal Talk “92.1 The Mic” WXXM Sun Prairie/Madison WI dropped its format at 11am this morning and has flipped to Christmas Music as “92.1 Best-FM“. As reported yesterday in our Daily Domains report, the move will lead to a new format for the station under the “Best-FM” branding after the holidays. A format change had been expected since the station’s brokered afternoon show was told in late October that WXXM was cancelling their show. 92.1 The Mic goes out with a 2.1 share in the Summer 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings, by far the highest for any station in the...

Yet another of Clear Channel’s Liberal Talk stations is dropping the format. “AM 760″ KKZN Thornton/Denver is next in line to shift to another Talk variation following similar moves in recent months at sister stations in Portland and Los Angeles. Morning host Gloria Neal posted on Facebook that she had been fired as the station would be changing formats. With Randi Rhodes ending her syndicated show next week the station is losing two of its shows. Greg Foster, VP/Programming for Clear Channel Denver confirmed to the Denver Post that Neal was let go. “I can confirm that Gloria Neal’s show...

(Columbus OH) It was announced on WVKO-AM this morning, that as of midnight tomorrow, the format on WVKO-AM will be changing. The LMA for the station will ending at that time and the station won't be Progressive Talk anymore. Thanks to Gary Richards for bringing back the format to Columbus radio for one more go around. That said, Mr. Richards said last year he wanted to buy the station outright so this is a disappointment to me. My guess is the new lease holders will take the station to a Urban Gospel format. Just a guess on my part.

Clear Channel Liberal Talk 620 KPOJ Portland will flip to Sports “Fox Sports 620“. KPOJ garnered a 1.0 share in the October ratings, up from a 0.8 in September. It will join a Portland Sports battle that includes Alpha Broadcasting’s “750 The Game” KXTG and Entercom’s “1080 The Fan” KFXX. 620 will remain the co-flagship of Oregon State University play-by-play along with sister Talk 1190/102.3 KEX. Willamette Week has more details including a statement from KPOJ morning host Carl Wolfson.

Another progressive talker falls victim to the rightwing corporate stranglehold of our public airwaves... The Peter B. Collins Show will come to an end, as of next Friday, according to an announcement by Collins on today's broadcast. After nearly five years on the air, the economic climate, and the stranglehold of rightwing corporate control over the public's airwaves has made it impossible for him to continue.(snip) ...heartbreaking, but hardly surprising in today's climate for nearly everyone but the vast majority of rightwing whackjob radio hosts propped up by rightwing corporate interests. After a quick segment, during our appearance on today's...
  • Liberal Talk Radio Host Jokes "Rush Limbaugh Should be Executed For Treason" - Video 3/5/09

Here is video from last night's Larry King Live where Larry talked to a roundtable of political pundits about Rush Limbaugh and other issues. Liberal talk radio host Stephanie Miller at one point said she thought the comments of Rush Limbaugh wanting Obama to fail are treasonous and that he should be executed! Now, I think she said it somewhat in jest, but just imagine how Larry King would have reacted had a conservative said that about anyone on the Left. Larry King said not a word to Miller about her comment. See for yourself - she makes the comment...
  • Washington's "Obama 1260" liberal talk will flip to business-talk next week

Apparently, Obama’s presidency will outlive WWRC-AM’s “Obama 1260.” Red Zebra Broadcasting is pulling the plug on the liberal talk format, featuring Stephanie Miller, Lionel, and Rachel Maddow, and go alll-business news starting next week. WWRC PD Greg Tantum tells the Washington Post the reason is the “ratings collapsed to a level that could not be measured after the election.” The lone survivor of “Obama 1260” will be liberal talker Ed Schultz, who will move to Red Zebra conservative talk sister-station WTNT-AM (570). FYI – prior to March, 2003 when WWRC was owned by Clear Channel, they had a business news...

KLSD in San Diego is expected to drop "progressive talk" for sports on Oct. 28. And now another AAR station is also leaving the fold: KOKE in Austin Texas which replaced prog talk with "Mexican music" according to LiberalTalkRadio blog. Happened yesterday. The incredible shrinking network; are they down to their last 10 stations yet? Spanish-language music had also replaced Air America in Boston last December ("La Nueva Rumba/Orgullo Latina")

As I mentioned a couple weeks back, libs in San Diego are anguished because progressive talk station KLSD (those ARE the call letters, I'm not joking!) might be dropping it. How dare Clear Channel consider changing the format to something that actually MAKES money! Word has it it could happen anytime between now and Oct 1 (it could happen this week, as a new ratings period starts on Thu.) They have held a couple rallies. Oh yeah. Those always work. Be sure to invite the commies from ANSWER and any pothead you can find (the "LSD rally" in San Diego,...

A concerned fan of Air America which lost its Boston stations in Dec. wrote to the FCC saying that it just isn't fair that no liberal radio (but: what about NPR?) exists in a very liberal town. The FCC replied that they have nothing to do with programming (other than that concerning obscene material). In other words, just because Air America flopped in liberal Boston, don't come crying to us. The original letter: I'm very upset that the only progressive talk radio station in the Boston area was abruptly dumped a few days before Christmas and changed to a Spanish...

For Seattle's biggest-spending liberal benefactor, bankrupt Air America was a costly flyer. Deep-pocketed political donor Rob Glaser undertook his biggest-ever political investment in 2004 when he handed over $10 million to prop up lefty talk-show network Air America Radio, giving him 36.7 percent ownership. But while the founder and CEO of Seattle-based RealNetworks Inc. successfully helped fund the 2006 Democratic revolt in Congress, he has been bloodied attempting a similar revolution in progressive talk radio. The network's challenge to Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talkers for the nation's hearts, minds, and ad revenues has ended up in bankruptcy, and Glaser,...

In Southern California, conservative radio has reached a new ratings high: first place. That would be KFI-AM we're talking about, home of Rush Limbaugh and morning host Bill Handel. With an overall share of 4.9 revealed in the lastest monthly Arbitron trend report, KFI has rocketed into the number one position, surpassing Spanish language formats and FM music stations. As far as we can tell, it's the first time this has occurred in Los Angeles.

Two days into the latest batch of big-city Arbitron radio ratings releases, not even one piece of good news has yet emerged for Air America. With the liberal radio network's second anniversary just days away, that leaves little to celebrate when it comes to real audience growth. After fresh numbers from New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Diego and elsewhere, here's a quick scorecard: --- In New York City, temporary network flagship WLIB-AM showed losses. From an overall 1.4 audience share last month, it fell to a 1.2 this time around. In the broadest measurement of listeners, this critically...

By Brian Maloney Could this be Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo's lucky day? As crucial midterm congressional elections approach, can America's "progressive" leaders really afford to let an ailing liberal talk radio network die? Apparently, the answer to the first question is yes, to the second, no, the Radio Equalizer has learned. Through an emergency bailout plan, a coalition of wealthy liberal political activists are poised to at least temporarily save Air America Radio. On the way: as much as $8 million in sorely-needed cash to fund ongoing operations.

To prove Vice President Dick Cheney's hunting accident is a full-fledged scandal, just how far are desperate liberal media types willing to go? Proving nothing is off the table, Lawrence O'Donnell of MSNBC and McLaughlin Group fame wants the public to believe Cheney had been drinking! Beyond Dr. Pepper, is there an eyewitness report of anything consumed in liquid form? No. Is there any other way to substantiate this allegation? Nope. Evidence, who needs evidence? On the left, it's conspiracy-huntin' season. Without hesitation, one could easily expect the left to go ballistic were conservatives to make similar baseless charges against...

Why exactly should Bill O'Reilly travel to Darfur? The "answer" speaks volumes on just how petty and childish his left-wing critics have become. Going so far as to take up a cyber collection, they insist he could easily host his shows from Sudan to bring attention to the region's plight. Do these people really care about Sudan, the virtually obliterated peoples of Darfur, or human rights as a whole? Of course not. And don't take the Radio Equalizer's word for it, here's the real story (excerpted) from Editor & Publisher: ..................snip............................

Remember push polls? Emerging just before elections, they pretend to desire the opinions of voters. Then, to those foolish enough to remain on the telephone, they proceed to shove political propaganda right down unsuspecting throats. In a variation, Al Franken has introduced the art of "push interviews", where in theory he's there to be asked questions. Pity the reporter, though, who believes it's anything other than Al's latest manipulation: an overbearing effort to persuade the other party his very line of inquiry is wrong. If Franken had his facts straight, that would one thing.....................snip...........................

While it may not seem easy to keep Al Franken quiet on virtually any subject, we may have found a way: on national television, expose his outrageous compensation demands and watch him instantly clam up. One week after our report appeared here and was discussed on the O'Reilly Factor, Franken, his fellow staffers and Air America Radio itself haven't said a word about it. Nor have nonstop FOX-bashers such as David Brock's Media Matters even mentioned our documented findings. Included were revelations Franken made an increasing series of demands of the liberal radio network, at the same time it was...

If you thought the point of a major daily paper was to report news, not make headlines, then recent events at the Washington Post may seem a bit odd. First, the strange new fascination with adding reporters to the airwaves continues, where "Washington Post Radio", covered here previously, apparently finds some newsroom staffers with stars in their eyes. Especially brilliant points from Dave Hughes at DCRTV: Posties Prepare To Be Radio Stars - 1/21 - DCRTV hears that a number of Washington Posties are running around the newspaper's downtown DC HQ preparing themselves for their new radio careers ....................snip..................

Even for those not particularly familiar with the broadcast legend, it was quite a moving send-off for WOR/New York's Bob Grant this evening. Saying goodbye after decades of trailblazing talk radio entertainment, Grant was praised by some of the industry's biggest names, including Howard Stern. In a particularly fascinating radio moment, Stern revealed just how much he had influenced his own career. In addition, Howard credited Grant for the development of the modern conservative movement, calling him years ahead of nearly everyone else. Stern wondered why Grant hadn't become a major national star along the lines of Rush Limbaugh and...
