GOODBYE - (BOB GRANT) - Radio Legend Signs Off, Springer Fluff, Tip Jars Of The Stars
The Radio Equalizer- Brian Maloney ^ | January 14th, 2006 | Brian Maloney

Even for those not particularly familiar with the broadcast legend, it was quite a moving send-off for WOR/New York's Bob Grant this evening. Saying goodbye after decades of trailblazing talk radio entertainment, Grant was praised by some of the industry's biggest names, including Howard Stern.

In a particularly fascinating radio moment, Stern revealed just how much he had influenced his own career. In addition, Howard credited Grant for the development of the modern conservative movement, calling him years ahead of nearly everyone else.

Stern wondered why Grant hadn't become a major national star along the lines of Rush Limbaugh and praised him for his independent brand of conservative politics, seemingly free from partisan influence. He also found agreement from Grant in the idea that talk radio hosting is addictive and the domain of serious control freaks.....

Goodbye Bob! You were a worthy successor to the late Joe Pyne and paved the way for Rush.

I am a regular listener of 77WABC in NYC, where I heard that Bob Grant is back on 77WABC with Sean Hannity starting Monday. It didn't run as a promo, it was more like an announcement between regular commercials.

The local station here in VA that carries Rush and Hannity is WFNR 710. In the winter, they sign off around 5-5:15 PM, and then WOR 710 comes in (if the wind is blowing in the right direction...);-)

I've listened to Mr. Grant from time to time, he has even LESS patience with libs than Mark Levin does on WABC 770....

Is this a permanent thing? If he gets his own time slot, it better not be at the expense of The Great One.

Seems to be permanent, but I'm hoping an offer will be made to him this afternoon on the Sean Hannety show by WABC. I'm listening to Bob this very moment on WABC.

I love Bob. I started listening to him in 1984 when he came on WABC and he made me see the light and changed me into a staunch conservative.

Checking a couple of links this p.m.:

On the WABC feed he is interviewing Bob Grant and taking live calls from that audience for the entire hour.

Sean Hannity is talking about immigration problems with J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) on our local station and on the WMAL Washington, DC, feed. This portion was apparently taped earlier today because he is talking about tonight's Hannity and Colmes with the correct line-up (bites from crazy Al's speech).

It appears this is a one-time promo for Grant who in an earlier segment said he is retiring from full-time radio. Sean wants him to stay available as a fill-in. So no worries about missing the "Great One".

You may not miss Bob Grant, but I will miss him! He has retired.

If you want to see what the "insiders" in the radio biz say, check out the threads relating to Grant. Lots of speculation and it does make interesting reading.

As regards to Steve Malzberg. I spoke to him about a month ago and he seems to be enjoying guest hosting all over the country from his house. As I understand it WWRL is still paying him as they are obligated to until his contract expires. I got a nice Hanukkah card from him for the holidays :-).

Maltzberg has a terrible voice for radio. He should have stuck with reporting sports, not that he's any better at that either.

Bob can take the spot after Sean from 6-8pm.
