PHOENIX — Former attorney general of Arizona Grant Woods, a Republican contemplating a switch in political parties, has endorsed Democrat Dr. Hiral Tipirneni in her congressional bid against incumbent conservative Debbie Lesko. Woods, the onetime chief of staff to the late Arizona Sen. John McCain, Woods and Tipirneni appeared together at a town hall in Surprise on Tuesday night. “She’s smart, independent, articulate and understands the complexities of important issues. In other words, she is just what our country needs in Congress,” Woods said of the Congressional District 8 candidate. {SNIP}

Democrats' path to take over the House in November took a sharp right turn last night as a Republican won a special congressional election in Arizona's 8th Congressional District. Debbie Lesko, a former state senator, bested Democrat Hiral Tipirneni, a physician, by about 10,000 votes. Donald Trump won Arizona by 21 points in 2016. Lesko will serve out the term of Rep. Trent Franks, who resigned in disgrace.

Republican Debbie Lesko won the House special election in Arizona Tuesday night, holding off a closer-than-expected Democratic challenge in a district that President Donald Trump won by 21 points in 2016. Lesko had 53 percent of the vote when The Associated Press called the race an hour after the polls closed, with over 155,000 early votes tallied. Democrat Hiral Tipirneni had 47 percent of the vote. But Lesko’s single-digit margin is the latest evidence that Republicans face a punishing midterm environment, even in Trump-friendly territory. Lesko’s victory comes on the heels of losses for Republicans in southwestern Pennsylvania, where Democratic...

A doctor in a white coat ambles down a hospital hallway. Suddenly, an old lady attacks, whacking him with her metal cane. Pow! He collapses, falling face-first on the floor. Another old lady kneels over him, rummaging through his pockets, stealing vials of pills. "That's me in drag," says Matthew Lesko, Washington's infomercial king, the self-proclaimed Guru of Government Giveaways. He's watching one of his latest ads on a laptop computer in a funky College Park coffeehouse, pointing to the "old lady," who is actually Lesko in a blue dress and a pink hat. On the screen, the doctor-mugging scene...

Television viewers who thought those commercials promising "hidden money" from the federal government to help pay bills were too good to be true were right, the state Consumer Protection Board warns in a new report. The CPB report, titled "Secrets Revealed! How Misleading Advertising is Feeding a Nationwide Boom in Government Scams," takes pitchman Matthew Lesko to task for exaggerating what is available to the public. For years, Lesko, dressed in suits adorned with question marks, has loudly hawked his books on television and over the Internet, saying he can help people find money from thousands of little-known federal government...

I've always wondered about the huckster named Matthew Lesko, who has made a living find free stuff you can get from the government. Since I just finished my taxes last night, I was particularly incensed at a "build-your-business"-type email featuring an article by Lesko. So here's what he wants people to use YOUR AND MY money for. He calls it "Other Taxpayer's Money" and has no qualms about this. A thought just occurred to me: Notify some taxpayer's watchdog group and have them buy his books and go through the entries page by page as a complete blueprint for what...
